Computer Programming is not Magic

Do we really want everybody to be a coder? Do we really want a million retarded, hipster, tech startups that never make any money starting up every day?

First of all, unless coding becomes 1000 times more simple, very few will understand how to code well.

Second of all, it's not cool to start up a website that's invite only, has a stupid name, takes millions of dollars from investors, and never even thinks about how they will make money, and then everybody leaves a couple years later.

What's cool is actually creating a business that makes money and provides a different or lower cost product or service and stays in business for a really long time. That's cool.

also Will I Am is stupid.

Teaching someone to code is not nearly the same thing as turning someone into a hipster hackernews startup wannabe.

I'd much rather there be 10x as many coders out there; then I wouldn't need to pay $50,000+/yr (usually even more than that) to hire a good full time developer.

Most people can learn to "write code", but to become an excellent computer programmer takes a lot of time. I think it is also partially a "gift". Just like some people can draw and some can't, some people can dance well, and some just can't. You need to be able to think abstractly and be able to think multiple steps ahead, plan and project manage all at the same time.
