Courts Ruled in Comcast's favor

I think it blows personally, I'm sure somebody with a more nuanced view of makets/free enterprise probably disagrees, but I think the barriers to entry are so high for high speed internet providers that eventual price fixing, collusion, and an oligarchy of telcos/cable providers can't be avoided.

this is good and bad really. Fuck the FCC, but Fuck Comcast as well. It's bad because it sort of sets precedent for shady ISPs like comcast, but good because it limits the FCC. Really the best thing to keep ISPs in check on both speeds and net neutrality will be Google's fiber.

Unless you live in a bigger city most of the time you don't have much of a choice either. I have lived in 3 smaller towns and all of them have Charter and some small local company with dsl or slow service. That's bullshit for people who are pretty much going to be forced to use a company like Comcast because it is their only way to get internet.

I have put up with price increases, shitty customer service, nickle and dimed to death by bullshit fees, charged to change service plans, and now their newest thing is 2 year contracts. I've never heard of a cable company that did contracts. Not really liking this at all actually.

I don't trust google to be any more impartial or not throttle traffic they identify as preferred any more than I trust Comcast. Google will only counter the telcos if it's profitable, if it's not, well I don't put any stock in their "don't be evil" shtick.

Blows...

Also, pretty crazy how we have such slow speeds in the US. My Swedish friends has 100 mbps at the equivalent of 20EUR/month.

Shit... even Eastern Europe has blown past the US as far as web speed is concerned.

I've worked for Charter and Comcast. So many people whined about having to talk to a Canadian - since I'm a foreigner. Lol, when they asked to speak with supervisors the poor customer had no idea where I would be forced to send them...

The cable line infrastructure in most parts of the US is terrible. Your rates will rise, and the ISP will keep using 25 year old technology to deliver your "high speed".

That was a bit of a rant I guess, but I was appalled at the price US customers pay for cable and internet. Don't get me started on their phone service.

Not far from where I live a Charter Call Center shut down recently. Basically the center wasn't meeting their up-sell quota. This particular center dealt with the Southern United States, which has the worst infrastructure anywhere. Anyhow, they wanted agents selling ice to eskimos practically "Sorry your internet isn't working for the 20th day this month. Can I interest you in a faster connection speed? - that may just solve your connection issues."

That may seem like a joke, but it's one of many scripts the company encouraged me to use when I worked there a few years ago. Their basic stance was that if they didn't catch you doing it, then it was fine, since revenue was #1.

I meant "Comcast" in the above statement about the shady scripts the company forced on it's employees.
