A consumer VPN service called CryptoSeal Privacy has shut down rather than risk government intrusions that could cost the company money in legal fees and threaten user privacy.

CryptoSeal will continue offering its business-focused VPN, but the consumer service is done, the company announced:

With immediate effect as of this notice, CryptoSeal Privacy, our consumer VPN service, is terminated. All cryptographic keys used in the operation of the service have been zerofilled, and while no logs were produced (by design) during operation of the service, all records created incidental to the operation of the service have been deleted to the best of our ability.

Essentially, the service was created and operated under a certain understanding of current US law, and that understanding may not currently be valid. As we are a US company and comply fully with US law, but wish to protect the privacy of our users, it is impossible for us to continue offering the CryptoSeal Privacy consumer VPN product.

Our system does not support recording any of the information commonly requested in a pen register order, and it would be technically infeasible for us to add this in a prompt manner," CryptoSeal continued. "The consequence, being forced to turn over cryptographic keys to our entire system on the strength of a pen register order, is unreasonable in our opinion and likely unconstitutional. But until this matter is settled, we are unable to proceed with our service."

Good Luck Bro's.

Honestly, fuck the NSA. I hope the whole damn organization gets fucking gutted.

The terrorist threat is an overblown puppetshow and a convenient way to circumvent the constitution. The patriot act was gift wrapped as a necessary intrustion in our daily lives to keep us safe, and yet I feel no safer in knowing someone is watching my every move and listening to my conversations. Regardless of how "Tin-foil hat" this sounds, I believe the whole program is only designed to control the population and help keep the ruling class in power, that much is clear to absolutely anyone who has been following this whole circus.

The authortarian state isn't on it's way; it's nearly here.

Lavabit, an encrypted email service believed to have been used by National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden, has abruptly shut down. The move came amidst a legal fight that appeared to involve U.S. government attempts to win access to customer information. In a Democracy Now! broadcast exclusive, we are joined by Lavabit owner Ladar Levison and his lawyer, Jesse Binnall. "Unfortunately, I can't talk about it. I would like to, believe me," Levison says. "I think if the American public knew what our government was doing, they wouldn't be allowed to do it anymore." In a message to his customers last week, Levison said: "I have been forced to make a difficult decision: to become complicit in crimes against the American people, or walk away from nearly 10 years of hard work by shutting down Lavabit." Levison said he was barred from discussing the events over the past six weeks that led to his decision. Soon after, another secure email provider called Silent Circle also announced it was shutting down.

Thanks Obama !!

Anyone else find it fucked up that...

You can't communicate in private anymore? Any method of doing so is being removed or revoked in-directly.

YOU HAVE LITERALLY LOST ALL RIGHTS TO PRIVACY.

.....

Let that shit sink in for a second.

I feel the same way, one of the reasons I go out of my way to donate to causes like RiseUp.net They provide secure email and free vpn access to people and groups working on liberatory social change. There's also the added tax benefits of donating to a non profit :x

You can still communicate privately in person. One day you won't be able to when they have nano drones flying around recording people; drones that could fit through any place where a particle of dust could fit.

They wouldn't even need to put a lot out there, just a few, then comes the chilling effect.

Lol, go back to the phreakers of the 70's and take a lesson, bitches.

If everyone walked around all day long doing nothing but talking out loud, on their phones, in e-mail, on FB, twatter, whatever about terrorist shit- I'm going to blow this up, fuck that, shoot him, etc...

How many chucks could a woodchuck chuck, retards?

DROWN THE MOTHERFUCKERS IN DATA. ALL OF US.

Do It. Start Now. Tell Your Mom.

Hey now... government thinks privacy is extremely important. For them, not you.

This is far more outrageous than you guys seem to be aware of. Even Forbes is reporting on things that would have made 99% of you scream the words "tin-foil hat" in unison at me last year:

i remidn u guys chose obama twice.
I'd remind you that accusing individual americans of electing the people we have in power now is pretty silly considering that our voting machines have been proven to be rigged, our laws were in the past made to stop 3rd parties from being allowed at the presidential debates, and our mandated schooling enforces the stupid ideas most murikans use to choose their representatives with in the first place. (Ex: Hellblazer)

We have exactly the same amount of choice over our leaders as we do yours.

Any organization that has an office in any country of this planet is one that can be shut down by people with guns. Happens all the time now, even in other/multiple countries.

Yes, this includes self-sustaining networks that have a central point of failure like a management team. (Ex: Napster) Do NOT trust your data to any service that has named individuals involved with it on any level. If they aren't anonymous, then the bad guys can infiltrate and destroy easily enough. (Or worse, turn it into a honeypot.)

If you ever want to trust your data somewhere off your own encrypted hard drive, ask yourself this first: "Is there one single individual on this planet that can be made at gunpoint to make this system insecure somehow?" If the answer is not a resounding "no," then keep looking.

Bittorent, bitcoin, and bitmessage are the only such tested networks I know of for this at this time. (And bitmessage needs more testing.) Luckily there are many more in the works.

See dis is the plan.

1.) Goverment puts dat pressure on the real anonymous email providers.
2.) Email providers bail or shut down because they can't win.
3.) Feds either start up a company or take over an existing company and said company claims to be the most legit secure private email blah blah blah
4.) They tap into dat shit and boom your done.

It's a hostile takeover they are leading it on a 2 prong approach.

Hmm.. This reminds me.

You know those FREE government TV converter consoles they gave out awhile ago.

These things:

6-5-08-digital-stream-dtx99.jpg

Apparantly, they aren't just for "TV".

Heard stores from a cop where they could record/listen to people with those.

Not suprising either:

Is your TV watching you? | Fox News

(I hate fox, but not searching... It's true).

Kinda blew my mind.

No wonder the gov gave so many of those away...

So No. You are'nt entitled to privacy in your own home. And if you think so, just wait till someone knocks down your door with a warrantless drug search on false "suspescion".
