Todays "historic" blizzard is shutting down cities and interstates across 1/3rd of the USA. Surely some of you guys have a horror story or two to share with the rest of us about your inconvenience.

...Of course those of you who are REALLY inconvenienced don't have power right now so won't be seeing this thread until later...

Right now in KC we've got about 10 inches (much deeper in the drifts) and the snow has been perfectly horizontal at 25-45 mph all day long, non-stop. I-70 has been completely closed between KC & St. Louis for most of the day... Roads just can't be improved upon yet.

We weren't in the middle of the path of this monster and didn't get hit nearly as hard as Chi town is about to though... But sub-zero (F) temps are moving in and road salts won't work here for many days, likely a whole week!

Really glad I live within walking distance of a Sams club right now... I have no idea how long I'll be cooped up.

Fuck you guys, here in PA we had over an inch of ice. You can drive in snow but ice is fucking impossible. I picked my mom up from her work and on the way home I got sideways and just managed to get control before a car went by us. It was some scary shit.

The northern states are pretty prepared for this kind of stuff, it's really business as usual. I love hearing horror stories from other places though. A former boss of mine who lived in Wisconsin for a long time, now lives in Oklahoma city and by the sound of it it's basically dooms day there.

Here in Canada we're being warned not to leave our igloos tomorrow and snowmobile traffic is discouraged until this little blizzard is over with. Not to worry though; I have a new pair of muklucks and a fresh seal I speared yesterday to tide me over. :D

This is like the 5th time we have had this kind of snow (Wisconsin) this year . This one seems to be mild so far compared to a couple of ones we had earlier. If the weather man is right it will suck but still going to get around tomorrow. I do feel bad for some of the southern states where the only extra salt they have is in the Grocery store.

I'm in jersey. We've gotten crazy amounts of snow the past 2 years, but we arent getting hit by this one.

Has the blizzard started there yet? I thought it was just getting to Chicago tonight...

I would NOT want to visit somewhere that 2 feet of snow was on top of an inch of solid ice... That would suck dog balls.

We are getting spared in terms of snow but too be honest snow is better then ice.

Where your inches so far? (so to speak?)

Neighbors were crazy shoveling. I helped. Though told em, "No need for my drive. I can stay here for days."

Cause I do IM.

I'm in Overland Park, and since the wind is still fierce I wouldn't know what it really is outside my window... Drifts above 2 feet but my deck railing is bare... News said over 10 inches last I heard, but that was hours ago... Could be 2 feet by now for all I know.
