Da Blizzard

I would trade 20 minutes of snowplowing for having to worry about if the land my house is sitting on is going to fall off into the ocean. I dont think there is a place in this country that doesn't have to worry about that bitch Mother Nature. Some places she just punishes a little more.

Here here. Even Oklahoma, which is South enough to avoid most of these storms but just north enough to not suffer major hurricanes, gets especially targeted for Tornadoes and didn't escape this blizzard anyway.

I personally believe the way to live comfortably is to have two apartments or condos and chase the milder climate... I'm thinking about Summers in Maine and Winters in FL.

Besides the the obvious financial setback that comes this plan, anyone got any concerns with it? -I've been considering it for a long time now.

Just when the wife comes down to FL to visit me and meets my girlfriend whos staying there with me while I am away on "business"
 
20 minutes of snowplowing? Sounds like you have already endured years of snowplowing and will be facing decades more to come of it, while California is still here. The idea of CA falling into this ocean is just ignorant and absurd.

In the 10+ years I lived in SoCal, I've felt only a handful of earthquakes. The worst was this past Easter which was a 7.2
It was pretty freaky, but 30 seconds later, it was all over. Nothing to shovel, nothing to sprinkle salt over.

Its a figure of speech. The fact is I would take San Diego's weather any day. Year round 70s avg temp. San Diego has the best year round weather of any place in the country. The earth quake technology has come a long way in the last 20 years so its pretty safe but tell me its still not in the back of your mind that you could get hit with the big one when your least expecting it
 
The only time I realize it's winter is when I watch the news.

Tropical Paradises for the win.

When summer comes I'll be up north so I don't have to fry eggs on the driveway.

As for the earthquake likelihood of SoCal, it is not nearly as likely as one in portland or seattle.

Last mega-quake there: 1700 AD.
Frequency of mega-quakes there in fossil record: 230 years, like clockwork. (81 years overdue!)
 
I live in Chicago, and the snow is insane right now. People who've lived out here constantly talk about moving west, because the cold(not snow), but the fact of the matter, is this is home and they do like it here. The people out here are cool, and down to earth, and I can't say that for a lot of the areas out west. Most the reasons is money or family, people don't want to leave family and friends. I have the time and money to do so, and am planning to do so this year for a few months to see how it's like. Especially San Diego. I might be able to find a buddy who can afford it, and split a nice penthouse, or i'll just stay in an rental of some kind by myself. I'll ask for advice later on this, just wanted to chime in. To me, Chicago is the anti-NY and the anti-LA, it's chill, no honking and fast moving, and down to earth people. But doesn't mean we can't find a nice change of scenery.
 
an hour or two drive and we can do that and ski/snowboard. we have easy access to beach, mountains, and desert. but yeah, that was fun as a kid going sledding.

Yeah but this is a 5 minute drive from my house. I'm not knocking San Diego, but as hard as it might be for some of you guys to believe, some people actually like the weather to change.
 
I lived with my friend in laguna hills for a month last year...After about two weeks I was tired of the weather and was ready to get home...It was nice for the first week, then it got really boring...then it got REALLY boring. I was happy to land back in jersey, well, actually landed in philly, and see that it was an overcast day...then a few days later it rained, then it was sunny for a little, but temperature varied...I like having 4 seasons a year. It makes you realize how much you like certain weathers more than others, and when you get the weather you enjoy more, you really enjoy that.
 
even once the streets are plowed, it just blows back, and we somehow end up with ice. schools,government jobs, and even some hospital clinics been canceled 2 days down in illinois

Fuck that. I've lived in New England my entire life. We have two seasons... fucking hot as hell and freeze your nuts off cold. A few Spring or Fall-like days get sprinkled around (like in the middle of February), but mostly it just jumps from one extreme to the other over a couple weeks. We've had blizzards in April and 80 degree temperatures in November.

There are a lot of things that I love about this region, but the weather sure as hell isn't one of them. I'd take So Cal weather any day.
 
most were stuck over night.. but they got some buses to come in as warming stations.

It was just a combination of things that caused it all.. a bus slid and blocked all of LSD north bound (Lake Shore Drive) and then the thunder snow came and there was NO where to go... People starting running out of gas.. wind was like 80mph gust off the lake.. so they were stuck until the morn cuz the snow drift got up to 5 feet. I think they finally opened LSD today. Everyone lived.
