Is this how it is most places? There are just so many positions open for internet marketers - PPC, copywriting, etc. They all want like 5 years of experience, too.

Hubby put his resume out there looking for a change of pace, and the response has been crazy. I guess we hadn't thought about what our Internet experience meant in the 'real world' because we weren't doing it on order to get a j-o-b, but it turns out that it's in really high demand.

Has anyone poked around in your local area?

Wow, I would love to do that if I had more experience. maybe in 2-3 years when I get older and finish college I will look into it.

I've never heard of such job positions before.. then again IM isn't exactly what society sees as a profession.

I hadn't bothered looking... I'm not really interested in something that's going to pay me 1/4 of what I'm making now, with stricter work conditions. :tongue2:

I just searched on Canada's largest jobs site, and there's ONE ad that mentions Adwords (just as a minor thing), and about a dozen or two for SEO or PPC. That's for the whole country. But there are a lot of jobs not advertised on that site... like the 26 openings at GeoSign/TrueLocal.

i heard austin is booming too, i'd move down but i hope to be quitting my IT job next month anyways. it was a definate plan to move somewhere before we started attacking IM with lots of energy.

Craigslist is the only site worth checking for jobs here. And keep in mind that not everyone wants to be self-employed all the tine - some people enjoy not being the boss. :)

Austin is the coolest place to live. I have lived everywhere from LA to Boston to Florida and places in between and we LOVE it here. It's freakin hot in the summer, but the rest of the year is really, really nice weather.

Laura :)

Damn, at least 5 years experience? I guarantee that 98% of IM have less than than. Anyone with more than that is a big wig making bank right now and wouldn't stoop down to such a job :D

The jobs market for this stuff down here in Sydney is going nuts.

I keep getting emails from companies and recruiters.

It's nice to be wanted, but remember that we are also in the middle of the largest economic boom in human history so the chances of this lasting are slim.

Now is the time to be making your money, however you choose.

it is only just starting. just 4.8% of the worldwide advertising budget are spent for online advertisement. spendings for each year will most likely double over the next years.

this is going to be a goldmine :D so, don't give me that recession crap ;)

True enough, but when a recession does hit, which part of the advertising budget do you honestly think will be the first to go?

I just saw this:

MediaPost Publications - Shock Waves: Microsoft To Move Bulk Of $1 Billion In U.S. Ad Spending To Digital - 03/02/2007

NOT SURPRISINGLY for a tech behemoth, a top Microsoft executive said Thursday that in three years, the bulk of its nearly $1 billion in U.S. ad spending will be in the digital sphere. "We're actually pretty confident that by 2010, the majority of our media mix will shift to digital," said Mich Mathews, senior vice president of the company's central marketing group, at the AAAAs media conference.

Not that M$ sets the standard, but that certainly paints in interesting picture. :)

If you've been in internet marketing for 5 years and are not *at least* a millionaire, you have been doing something very wrong.
