I just moved to a new place and we're on some crappy Internet connection here. The problem is we're part of an HOA, so we have no choice - everyone has to use the same crap.
I can burst at ~500KBps for five minutes, at which time I'm penalized and cut down to 256Kbps (little b) or ~32KBps "until the line clears up." This is according to the guy at the ISP tech support who I called.
So just as a test I put a self imposed limit on my download speed at 200KBps to see if it would trigger the penalty. Sure enough, no luck.
I've tried different kinds of traffic, too - encrypting everything over the secure http port, etc.
Anyone have any ideas how I can get around this? 500KBps isn't that great compared to other providers around here (15Mb up and down!) but it's a hell of a lot better than 256kb.
