Nah, if the writers are good enough they could easily keep it going as long as they don't fall off the deep end and get stupid (Lost, Heros).

The thing is Rita only became a HUGE part of the show this season, and that's cause they were building you up to her death.

Think of how big the deaths of Doaks (sp?) and Lyla were. Those were also huge characters that took 1-2 seasons of buildup.

Good shows often have big deaths.. look at the Sopranos. I like it because it means the show will not be nearly as Episodic as other TV shows.

It isn't the big deaths that make me think the end of the series is near. It is that I believe Dexter's emotional cycle will come full circle by the end of next season. I think he'll be in the same state of mind he was in at the beginning of season 1. As much as I like the show, I'm not sure if it'll be able to hold my interest if Dexter goes through all the same emotional steps again, but with a different woman this time around.

Believe me, I'm hoping I'm wrong, as I'd love to see the show go for 10 seasons. But once he reconciles Rita's death, I'm not sure where else the Dexter character can go that he hasn't be already.

Well if you're just talking about the relationship aspect of the show I could care less if he hooks up with another chick again. Rita was a side-project IMO. But if you mean the whole character of Dexter might come full circle then you could be right.

Hell I'm just hard up for good entertainment.. and the show could get 50% worse and still be better than anything else out there.
 
It was a really good ending to a really good season. I wonder who killed Rita? I bet that's going to be the main plot next season... finding Rita's killer. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that she killed herself.

They probably had to kill off Rita because nobody liked her character, what a whiny bitch.

If you guys can't figure out that Trinity killed Rita, you should probably just give up and stop watching this show, it's over your head.

I could not stop watching this show for the first 3 seasons but now i kinda stopped.. But i think that i will start with the next seasons again. Thanks for reminding me :)
 
I watched this with a house full of people who have been watching Dexter for four years and nobody was happy or even approaching satisfied with the ending. It was like watching that second Depp pirate movie... WTF?

Rita was an incredibly obnoxious character. She spent all her time whining and telling Dexter what to do. That said, the ending was ridiculously unexpected for this season and it is going to be really weird to have her gone again + Dexter having the kids...

I think in the next season, Deb will figure out who Dexter is. She's close with the brother=icetruck thing...
 
My guess is the kids will go elsewhere at least Rita's kids. Prob with their father or grand parents. For Dex's kid I'm not sure, maybe he'll get a good nanny. They cant tie Dexter up like that in a show like this.

I think Deb is more annoying and would have been a lot happier to see her in that bathtub
