Ding Dong JohnChow.com is dead.

As crazy as it sounds, would you bring your own site down for a while just to stir up some buzz (once it's back up)? Dudes big enough to know it would get shared quick aka this thread.. Proactive fail marketing ftw?

thats a reach

fail now to succeed later

Rarely will your first foray into an activity be successful. Learning from failure is a key to eventual success.

I know it's probably not the case, just sayin' look what happens when someone big goes down, you can't even buy this kind of publicity...

"hey guys I fucked up and went down"

everyone rushes, posts, talks about how stupid he is, his advertisers get a lil' urked, yada yada...

Sooner or later he's back up, everyone is still going to see how stupid he is and if he's still down, nope he's back up, with a killer new post(s)/promo/ad inventory clear out/whatever.... People stop laughing, they read new uber shit, he attracts new advertisers/another round of traffic and noobs..

Not that far fetched - last year people did the whole "Sorry my last email had a screw up, here is the proper link/offer/etc...", so why not a 'I'm a dummy, we all make mistakes, now that I'm back up look at this killer shit"...

food for thought. *And if Shoe goes down in the next few days/weeks, you know this shit worked :P

Judging by his comments about Godaddy on Twitter I'd say no.

I've never actually come across a site that Godaddy has suspended because of "invalid whois" but a quick search in Google does confirm it.

Still a fucked up thing - can't believe people still register with godaddy. You'd think they would at least drop a 'REAL' letter in the mail before pulling stuff like this.

lol I can't make fun of him because I do stupid shit like this every now and then.

Child please, if hypocrisy precluded ripping on somebody we'd never be able to rip anyone and this world would be boring as hell. Flame that motherfucker! And when it happens to you? Don't tweet it.

How do you lose a domain because of "invalid whois"... did he use fake info, get called on it, and then not update it?

One of the reasons why i left Godaddy for Hostgator a while ago ~ Not that Hostgator is any better but still ... well ~

Am i the only one who would never put a valuable domain on godaddy ... the place is full of a bunch of shit tossing monkeys
