I've been researching this for a few weeks now. Besides medical, many people say DI is the most important (and least common) insurance to get.

Like many of you I'm a full-time affiliate marketer (and programmer) so I spend most of my time in front of a computer screen. Given my occupation and lifestyle, I'm fairly certain I'll never need this. BUT, anything can happen and the statistics are pretty surprising: about a third of Americans between 35 and 65 will be disabled for more than 90 days, the vast majority due to illness like cancer or heart disease.

Yes I know statistics like these aren't always entirely accurate but common sense and anecdotal evidence support at least a portion of that number, IMO.

This isn't the most fun (or interesting) topic but I'm curious to know, from fellow WF peeps, who has disability insurance (or not) and why..?

Don't be so sure nothing can happen to you sitting at your computer all day, I, at one time didn't put enough lube in my fleshlight and tore some skin of my dick because of this!

You, sir, have taken the bait. Innumeracy is a hell of a condition to struggle with, but unfortunately there are no insurance plans for people who are just bad at math.

You're surprised that 33% of all Americans have to take a 3 month leave, at some point in the last 3 decades of their working career?

If I were in the workforce for 30 yrs straight, with or without vacation, I'd probably voluntarily disable myself. Especially if that 30 years of work started when I was 35, and ended when I was legally going into retirement.

And I'm a programmer, too -- I'd really pity anyone working construction from 35-65, but if we're placing bets, you could easily double up betting against their wellbeing [at the proposed 2:1 odds].
