I am currently being instructed in BJJ and I boxed until I was 25. BJJ is great in a ring or cage but on the streets knowing how to knock someone the fuck out is the best. I used to fight alot back in the day and one shot knock out punches were very common because of my boxing background. On the streets the faster you can take someone out the better.
Yeah. The more you take a martial art, the more you become disciplined, mature and humble. Granted, you'll always have the douches who want to prove how tough they are. I'm so over that.
Anybody can get a lucky shot and take down the best trained fighter. I trained for years in karate and the best win was avoiding the fight in the first place. When shit becomes second nature and you have the skills to kill people you had better have some control over yourself. Our class would cross train with this other sensei who was absolutely crazy, he taught to hurt and his students were very tough. He would toughen his bones hitting forearms and legs with a 2x4, snap a makiwara punching it, and for fun beat the crap out of students in full padded gear. The point is you want to avoid fights and GTFO out of dodge when you can.. If you want to just go fight people, buy a gun just instead.
