Do you guys believe in ghosts / demons / possessions / haunted homes?

I believe in spirits. I have done plank chit before - okay, i know thats nothing big but YES I do believe coz of my past experiences. weird noises and shit happening when we did plank chit (ooja board) and how the F*** does the coin move, really ?

The existence of ghosts ≠ the existence god

This. Not sure why everyone is mixing ghosts and God into the same argument. I'm one of the least religious people you'll ever meet.

But as it stands, we're still just in the infancy of learning about this life and universe. In my mind at least, it's quite plausible there's multiple planes of existence, which sometimes intermingle. By no means is that outside the realm of reality.

Yes, I do. They are not ghosts though, they are Genies, but they can take any form; ie black cat, dead old lady. They exist, same as we do, same as other live (ie animals, plants) and seemingly dead(ie stones, sand) God creations. BUT, my understand is that they can't cross over, otherwise, they would have take over us long time ago.

Do y'all even rational?

Interesting perversions of "science" in this thread.

Not everything that is true falls within science. Science is interpreted through man who is inherently subjective and lacking of all data. Science only encompasses our current, subjective understanding of nature, not 100% complete, accurate, objective understanding. Using science as the truth is to use our current understanding as the truth. And our current understanding is and never can be the truth. People evolve and science evolves. What is scientifically true today may be scientifically false tomorrow and what is scientifically false today may be scientifically true tomorrow.

Not sure I could label it as ghosts, but I had two freaky things - one big and one mild - happen when I was about twenty. I lived alone at the time with a dog. I went to school during the day and when I came home one day, a decorative giraffe I had placed on top of the TV (don't ask) was no longer facing forward. It was facing about 45 degrees to the right. It was too high for my small dog to reach, so I figured maybe vibrations somewhere made it shift, but nothing else in the apartment had moved. I shrugged it off as maybe a weird maintenance man coming in to check something or whatever, although they usually would leave you a note if they came by.

That same week, I woke up in the middle of the night. My dog woke up at the same time I did and the hair went up on her back. She started growling softly but stayed frozen right next to me. I was sleeping in the middle of a double bed. The side of the mattress next to my right knee suddenly depressed as if someone sat down on the side of the bed. I felt the whole bed move as if a friend had plopped down suddenly.

There was definitely nobody there, but the dog kept growling. I definitely felt the movement, and a few moments later, the bed moved again as if whatever it was stood up again and left. Then, the dog settled down. I sure as hell didn't and still get chills thinking about it.

Never had anything else freaky happen again, but that scared the bejesus out of me. Worse, I know how stupid it sounds to others, but I honestly have no explanation at all as to why an invisible something would sit on the side of the bed and then stand up again. It's only worse that the dog was aware of it, too. Incidentally, it didn't feel evil or anything - just like some friendly grandmother sat down to chat and then left again.

Animals can sense these things ...
I am sure it was "something" freaky!

I think it's the opposite bro: it's people who do not believe in anything at all besides themselves and science that are the arrogant ones. How can you think that there is nothing above you out there?

I do believe in spirits because I've experienced a few things myself, and I know many people or all backgrounds that have experienced similar shit. No, science cannot explain everyting and No, we are not alone in this universe, and we are definitely not the center of it.

Science being... evidence based investigation of our world to try and understand how and why it works the way it does. In that case, yes, I do "believe" in science. What do you believe in?

The existence of ghosts ≠ the existence god

Obviously.

The point is that what leads people to believe in one is related to what leads people to believe in the other. And that is the narrow assumption that an experience/feeling/phenomenon which can't be explained must be caused by x, or y, or whatever you like.

It is not about scientifically false or true, science is about approximations of the natural world, usually with assumptions. For example, Newton's theory of gravity was eventually shown to be inaccurate on large scales. But on small scales, Einstein's theory reduces to Newton's, which is then accurate too. Neither is absolutely 'true'.

What would you rather have: humanity's subjective judgement through science, or humanity's subjective judgement through feelings and faith?

Do you even multiquote bro?

This is some freaky shit bro, sounds like a scenario right out of a horror movie.

Ghosts. Aren't. Real. Neither are spirits. Admit that your mind played a trick on you once. If multiple times, come to grips with the fact that you have very light psychosis.

Words like "true" and "false" are absolute all-knowing concepts, which technically do not exist in science.

If a scientist says it is "false" that ghosts exist, that would be their opinion.

A scientist could also have the opinion that ghosts are "true" based on personal experience or whatever, but at the same time recognize that not enough solid ghost evidence exists for there to be a scientific ghost theory - and even if there was it wouldn't be a claim of absolute truth.

Common misconceptions about science I: “Scientific proof” | Psychology Today

"Proofs exist only in mathematics and logic, not in science..

Proofs have two features that do not exist in science: They are final, and they are binary..

In contrast, all scientific knowledge is tentative and provisional, and nothing is final. There is no such thing as final proven knowledge in science.. "

Three stories from my childhood,

When I was a really young kid I had nightmares one night and went to find my mom... walked over to my parents bedroom and opened the door, the small night light seeped into the room but it was still dimly lit. I said something along the lines of 'mam, mam, mam, until I saw her wake up and look at me, she asked why I woke her up, and then I said I was having nightmares and asked if I could sleep in their bed for a bit. She said OK and I turned on the desk lamp right next to her bed. My mom which I was seeing and conversing for the past minute with disappeared right in front of my eyes but the covers were still floating where her body used to be and they just collapsed in front of me into the bed. I bolted to my room completely scared out of my mind and slept under the covers that night. My parents were away on vacation that weekend.

I woke up my entire family full on screaming my lungs out and no one could wake me up, my brother said he was whacking pillows in my face and I wasn't budging at all. I also talk constantly in my sleep apparently every night(still do). I'm tempted to record it sometime, but never did because I'm not sure I want to hear it.

I woke up in the middle of the night with no covers or pillows on my bed. I groggily looked all around my bed for them thinking they had fallen off, couldn't find them. I slept in the same room as my brother at the time so I woke him up and said it wasn't funny and I wanted my sheets back, I bugged him until he told me 'j'ai pas prit t'es fucking couvarte'(I didn't take your fucking sheets). Of course, I went to wake up my mom again. We looked under the bed, around my room and finally looked into the closet. I had stuff my entire bedding, including pillows, in my closet while completely asleep. One of the only times I sleep walked.
