If so, what do you use? I was thinking about getting a VoIP system and have the calls go directly to a voicemail. Anyone else do this?

Really don't need too many features. I really won't be answering the calls. I work a fulltime job and run the site on the site. I may use it to call people back, but it will probably be very rare. I'm even fine having a local number.

I have a 24/7 call center for my big sites, calls are never missed.
I have a g-voice # with a recorded message done by a female friend for my small sites, telling people to leave a message or email us. People seem to be nicer to girls.

Callrail for dynamic phone # insertion. Can track leads from SEO, PPC, etc without messing up your NAP for local listings.
Kind of off topic but I love CallRail.
I use it to track calls for myself and clients. PPC, direct mail, coupons, flyers, whatever... I know where calls are coming from.
Google kind of kicked it in the teeth when they stopped sending through keywords on organic traffic, but it still kicks ass and it's a bargain for what it does.
Used phone numbers before to build instant-trust but putting it in a voicemail where there's no live hours just takes that trust away. Hire a VA bud, cost just $2 per hour on a 1-5 calls a day on odesk or upto $5 per hour on a full time. Then put on your site (live hourse) on business hours only. dunno about your site bud but that's what I did on my site before.
Depends on the need. If you do it just to look legit and not going to answer the calls, you might want to look at some international sim card providers (that provide US numbers). For some of them you pay just for setup and then for calls you make, so if you're not using it to make calls, this is free, and can save the recurring charges of providers such as grasshopper etc
I use twilio for tracking. Since I moved out of states,I don't want to have international phone number, I use g phone number with 424 area code, you can set it up if you are out site of us. Ask someone to get you prepaid sim and register under it. Its free to call from your phone using 3g or wifi. It's not free from PC. Also talk to call centers, some of them have prices per call or per minute used with native speakers,based on your location and other shit like that. Worth checking out
Really don't need anything fancy. Looking for a hardware solution with minimal ( < $5 / month) service. Really just need voicemail. Don't need fancy analytics or anything.
I recommend Twilio. It is great as you can provision the numbers on the fly, cheap, can program a voice tree and forwarding easily, cheap, and has a huge userbase.
