Does your office environment effect you?

earlier this year i moved my office into my bedroom because my old office room gets cold during the winter and ever since i moved into my room i seem to never get anything done.

Probably because it doesn't feel like a work area when you got your bed behind you, But has anyone ever experienced something like this? Now that i look back at it i made some of my best revenue sitting in that old cold room during fall/winter. I worked my ass off in that room but now that im in this nice cozy warm room i never like to work and usually slack off and browse the web or play games.

am i just being a lazy bastard? or is there something to the whole make your work space a real work space. I think being in the cold keeps me focused and more alert rather than being all warm sitting in my boxers trying to work. Maybe ill try a week in the old office room. Maybe thats why most offices seem to be kind of on the chilly side?

Ah yeah it is always easier for me to work in the library rather than home.

my problem was my imac24.. that i just sold.. since then im working 10x more. windows ftw

When I was growing up my dad would always say "bedrooms are for sleeping" which I understood, but never quite 'got it.' We are creatures of habit, you associate your bedroom with relaxation, and hence you subconsciously feel that is what you need to do when you're in there. Just like when there is a pussy next to me in bed, I feel the need to fuck it at least once before I can sleep, it's just the way it is.

By having your office separate your body understands when you walk into that space you are there for one thing only, work. Your mind knows if you walk in there that is what you're going to do, so if you don't want to do work you avoid that room. If you do get to the point where your room is your place of work then you'll start to find that you won't be able to shut your mind off as easy before sleep, and will start to sleep considerably less.

Anyway, look at what work habits you have and try to fix it. If you need to get some decent heating put into your old office then do it. You'll probably find a light chill stops you from getting comfortable so you tend to work more, or you might find that warming it up will help you work smarter because you're more comfortable.

I have a strong feeling that after reading this thread I'm gonna grow enough fucking balls and finally! (like yahoo!) rent an office outside my fucking bedroom.

Keep posting guys, I'm almost there.

Working from home deprives productivity. Rent a $300/mo single desk office as soon as you can.

I'm confused, were you not able to find the software you wanted?

On my macbook, I'm far more productive on the OSX side than I am on the Windows side. Especially since a lot of the stuff is already built into the CLI much like the servers I deal with.

Having a bed right near my desk doesn't help. Whenever I have a creative block, I just lay down and end up taking a nap. Not so productive.

Goto a store and buy yourself a few electric heaters for that cold room and get back to work. You'll thank me later!

The climate-controlled storage place I use had a sign out, furnished offices, with inventory space for 325/month... looking attractive. :D
Yeah, a lot of places offer $300-ish pre-furnished (meaning a desk, basic chair, trash bin and desk plant(don't forget the plant!! :D)) single desk office spaces. They are used by anyone from startup accountants to graphic designers to people operating webshops and dropship fronts.

The entire atmosphere is just people (startups) working hard and being motivated. You meet actual people during lunch hours and the race to whoever parks the next Porsche outside is more motivating than any 'money shot' online...!

The most profitable 6 months in my life began the day I settled into office space to work.

Though for fun, I thought bout going into a Starbucks, and placing a nameplate at the end of my table:

Karl Blessing
Blessing Development

:D

I find I'm 100x more productive at night oddly. I love to work while the world is asleep. Doesn't work too well though when I need to do normal things at normal hours. My schedule gets all messed up.

im the same exact way. theres something about 3am that just works.

I get a lot of my work done at the Panera Bread near my house. Free WIFI, and the people there know me so when I'm usually there for hours at a time, they gimme free coffee and stuffs.

If I could be in Panera Bread after 2 AM when I'm the most alert and productive, I could probably make a million dollars. Probably.
