Don't you hate it when you suddenly become aware of your own breathing?

Not as bad as fucking a girl with no condom and then her "finding out" a couple days later that she has herpes and planned parenthood told her if they didn't call her in 5 days, she's clean, but they took 7 days to call her and now you're aware of the fact that you MAY have herpes and you're aware of your penis and it itches and burns all day and you look at it with a magnifying glass and see spots and bumps you've never seen before and probably create more by touching it and lookinig at it so much... then you find out you don't have it and you go back to worrying about the fact that you can't stop breathing no matter what and it actually takes some work!

I would swap to being aware of hearing my own breathing any day from the nightmare of tinnitus which I suffer from.

Tinnitus is ringing in the ears after eardrum damage caused by prolonged exposure to loud noise

Its not so bad when you got plenty of background noise that kind of masks it during the day but when its quiet or you are trying to get to sleep I got something like the high pitched noise of a jet engine in my ear. Sometimes its verging on the unbearable...

I'm told i got hearing damage, the legacy of miss spent younger days and countless nights spent standing too near the speakers in clubs playing super loud house music!

Oh and theres no remedy apparently. Now I am paying the price..Yea I know, what a silly fucker..!

You might try one (!!!) noise canceling earplug.

I am not even kidding. Psychological research has shown that it helps some sufferers of tinnitus. The explanation seems to lie in the fact that the brain has to adapt to the new situation and this might cancel out the tinnitus.

Try it, not much to loose.

I too suffer from Tinnitus. I’ve had it since I was a child. I had horrible ear infections as an infant and tubes were put in my years, all the swelling of my ear drums, and the surgery damaged my ears and I’ve had a terrible ringing in the ears ever since.

As I’ve gotten older, it’s become much more noticeable, and after discovering loud music and live shows in highschool, it got really bad.

Like you, most the time it’s manageable and I really don’t notice it, but at night, it’s unbearable. I do sleep with a box fan on, a few feet from my head, and the white nosie really helps.
I think the advantage I have to most people with Tinnitus is I’ve had it for 35ish years and have become pretty use to it. It does bug the fuck out of me at times, but, I tend to not pay it too much mind, when I hear it I know I’ll eventually forget about it.
I've heard a white-noise generator can help masking the tinnitus.
I use a fan, and it helps a lot.
To Shina:

I wonder if hypnotism would work for that. A command to not hear that noise.
I’ve wondered that myself and plan on giving it a try. I hear hypnotism is great for chronic pain, I wonder if the same technique can be used for Tinnitus.

Wow emp, I’ll have to look into that. Thanks.

Emp, yeah thats a new one on me, will look into it and try it, cheers for that.

As i sit here and type, its 12.40 am at night and quiet and the whistling is LOUD particularly in my left ear, like Chinese water torture but with sound IN my head! The concern I have is having to wear a hearing aid when i'm older, NOT cool

Nis, yeah, i got talk radio on in the back ground as i work which is kind of the same thing, but the white noise generator could be the answer at night..

Tiger Tom, i was hypnotised by the great Richard Bandler on a seminar i did with him a while back, cool experence but did not remove the problem sadly.

KSRothwell, "sounds" like you know where I'm coming from ha ha. We got a club here in London called the Ministry of Sound with a massive sound system and speakers 10 feet high, it used to be open until 9am sunday morning! its that and lots of time spent in other clubs thats done the damage I'm sure of it.

I lead a quieter life nowadays......mostly!

As you say, its only when you focus on it that it really bugs, although i have read that some people become well nigh suicidal, crikey they must be getting it horrendously.
