Wonder what it would have looked like if AIG was still in DJIA back then.

Let's just ignore every other factor involved in the state of the US economy, and base our entire analysis of the US economy's health on the DJIA.

Good idea. Lets do that.

It's okay man, it's all water under the bridge now :). I forgive you. Good job for being man enough to apologize for your stupid mistake, I don't know many whites with enough courage to do so. You have my respect.

Sincerely,

Pewep

Um...you're white yourself, Pewep. Remember?

This is it boys. Strap yourself in. This is the last big hurrah before an epic crash. The markets are being artificially propped up. The wheels are about to come off this mother fucker.

You're not really supposed to say this. Let Pewep get to Maximum Fool status first so this thread can live in infamy when the Mother-Of-All-Crashes occurs.

Yeah! Dow Jones! Savior Obama!

Because Obama directly impacts Dow Jones/NYSE..

Whatever the potential impact for a president is, it's the same whether the market is high or low, but the ability of many people to understand this changes depending on whether or not the president is a democrat or republican.

About two-thirds of Republicans say the president can do something about high gas prices, and about two-thirds of Democrats say he can't.

But six years ago, with a Republican president in the White House, the numbers were reversed

Inflation is never good. It's like when when a woman's ass inflates from fine to fat - it loses all its original value.

When is inflation good, and who does it benefit?

Not my position necessarily but I'll play devils advocate.
There's an argument by some economists that mild controlled inflation is good for keeping the economy growing by encouraging investing. A rare metal currency like gold over the long term will always deflate and this encourages hoarding of the actual currency. Because if the currency increases in value over time why invest it as much as if it devalued over time? You wouldn't. Hoarding of a currency means people aren't putting it to work through investing, etc.. so there is less credit available etc. It's well known that harsh deflation of a currency will fuck up any economy possibly more than harsh inflation but definitely more than mild inflation.

This is what unemployment looks like when you include the people not collecting unemployment

What do unemployment numbers have to do with the markets and corporate profits?

Technology and globalization are cutting out jobs. That's the way it goes.

Both inflation and deflation can be negative, but that doesn't make inflation automatically better. You can inflate a currency based on increase of population and increase of standard of living, but the US currency isn't inflated at anywhere near that rate right now.

Right now, for the majority of the US population, currency inflation is destroying savings, pensions and wages.
