i bought a "sicko sucks" domain a couple months ago, been trying to figure out how to make a buck off people yelling back and forth about their hate or love for big ol michael moore. any thoughts?

Easy.. make it into a forum. One open section with both sides to duke it out in that arena, then one seperate section for him and one against him.

If you don't want to go the forum route, then try to go a WP blog route, or something that will keep it as more of a content site, so you can stick lots of CPM spots for advertisers to buy (sell to both political party sides if you can, they eat this stuff up). Put Adsense or YPN ads on the rest of the spots, and sprinkle in those annoying contextual ad links that turn regular text keywords into links. Make an RSS feed to auto-post any and all news about Michael Moore, you may also want to consider making a photo gallery, just look at it as more ad spaces. Stick some amazon and Netflix/Blockbuster links to his other movies and books too, especially in the pro-MM section. You can probably put lots of Healthcare links in the anti-MM sections, and also funny tshirt ads.

You can do lots of great things with this topic, because he tries to piss off people in a whole range of political style topics, so not only are no arguments every won, but they never end either.

Use this to your advantage.

The only problem is that the vast majority of movies only captivate people for a short period of time before they are forgotten.

I doubt this can be any more than a seasonal blog. Puts some adsense ads and wordpress and give it a go.

jon - thanks for the advice. i was planning on going the blog route - post some incendiary comments to get people coming and put some aff and adsense links around it - see what happens.

the forum idea is intriguing though, but i don't want to put much time into this (moderating, deleting spam, etc.).. would you recommend opening up a free-for-all forum and just letting shit fly - no moderation etc.

as the poster above said, it's seasonal, so i just don't want to put too much effort in it. i did a quick wp blog during the pet food scare that made a few hundred bucks for about six weeks and then died...

thanks again for the input.

Anyone here see Supersize Me?

It was one of those aaron russo/michael moore type documentaries except the guy doing it was actually funny and cool not a complete ass. It was actually a really good one as far as those types of epose documentaries go.

actually i think eating 5000 calories a day and purposely not exercising would qualify anyone to be an ass :)

Yeah, great film. I like that guy... Morgan Spurlok? (or something) Fuckin worrying what a diet of fast food actually does to ya body!

Um doesn't doctor Phil already do this?

ROTFLMAO! PWNED. Damn, but I hate Dr. Phil so fucking much.

...If I were actually going to be in my own movie, I would make every effort to look as much like Elizabeth Vargas as possible and not throw my lard butt in front of interviewees. Moore really needs to find another narrator.

I don't like his persona, his voice, or his attitude, but I agree with the arguments of his films. Health care is a huge fucking problem, and it's ridiculous that Americans have to pay 10x more than anyone else for the exact same medications. :xomunch: Drug research is expensive, but it's not THAT expensive, not by a long shot.

If pharmaceutical companies were actually dedicated to the well-being of its customers, they'd sacrifice a bit of profit for the production of critical vaccines and antidotes like Tamiflu and the emergency smallpox vaccine.

In other news, there are a shitload of torrents for Sicko on Isohunt. XD

I paid to see that, and I couldn't eat a Wendy's for a looooong time after seeing it. Awesome dieting video. ;)

A book that inspired the film was "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser. He did an interview with the director, Morgan Spurlock. That book exposed the absolutely disgusting things that happen to processed food, not just fast food.

Morgan Spurlock made a great TV series called "30 Days." It had at least two seasons that I know of.

Yeah, I saw a few of them... struggling to remember details.. :rasta: but it was very interesting!

It was where they put people into the most uncomfortable situations imaginable, like living a month in someone else's shoes. Notable episodes that I can remember:

--NYC SUV driver and meat-eater live on commune. This was hilarious AND enlightening. The commune people probably smelled terrible, but they had some awesome ideas and the cash saved up to implement them, like solar-powered electricity everywhere, saving cooking oil from restaurants and and using it as fuel for their car with an inexpensive conversion method, turning a regular car into an electric car (different car, I believe), etc.

--Minuteman lives with family of illegal immigrants. Enough said.

--Atheist lives with hard-core fundamentalists. This was one of those cringe fests where you just want to whisper to the TV: "Run away! Run away!"

--WV conservative lives AS a Muslim in Dearborn, MI. This episode was depressing but extremely powerful, and to date I think it's the only non-news TV program that has ever made me cry.

--Morgan goes to jail as a prisoner. I can't believe he made himself go through this.

--Morgan and fiancée live on minimum wage. Can't believe he made them both do this, either. HA HAAAA. :Yahoo_29:

I saw the movie last night and I have to say that I really liked it.
For sure Moore is populist, but then again, he addresses real
and important issue.

Health care shouldn't be a political issue, It effects both sides of the beltway. I hate the ideal of raising taxes for the sake of big government. But this is one thing that I don't mind my taxes being raised for. Paying taxes for Health care yes, for foundation for the arts no.

hahah, should be renamed "suckers", for people who thinks the government will save them.

Someone even uploaded this to Google with the title "A comedy about 45 million people with no health care in the richest country on earth" Google Video result for http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9006414844032752909

Wah wah, 5 minutes in and some old americans crying about being bankrupt and being forced to move in with their kids. How about all the kids around the world who just fucking die when they get sick of minor illnessess. These people get inconvenienced and still get first rate healthcare despite the hospitals eating the costs.

Good point man, but I'm betting a lot of the people against free healthcare would also be against increasing foreign aid to the level that is needed to help sort some of that shit.
