DrudgeReport.com is a huge website - MAKES HOW MUCH?

I knew it was a top news site, but to me it looks like a big unorganized link list. Am I the only one that thinks that?

It's like Fark.com... Tons of traffic, piece of shit site.

But both clear at least $2M a year, easy.

Drudge broke the monica lewinsky story, thats what really put him on the map. I have heard bits and pieces about what he makes, several years ago it was in the low million range. With the resurgence of online ad revenues that probably went up. His biggest plus is he only has one employee (last I heard.) Either way, he's doing well.

There is nothing wrong with having a shitty site when it delivers exactly what the audience wants. Just take a look at plentyoffish, or in a way even compare Google's front page to Yahoo. It makes graphic designers want to commit suicide.

The recent cover of Business 2.0 features Drew Curtis of Fark.com -- great article about him and a few other sites called "Blogging for Dollars". On the cover it states Fark.com does $60k a month but recently signed on with Battelle's FM and cut a side deal with Dennis Digital, a division of Maxim magazine's publisher. He projects Fark should soon log monthly ad sales of $600,000 to $800,000 and become the first indie blog to earn a million dollars a year in profit.

Wonder how he (one man) broke the Monica Lewinsky story? Must have some connections.

There is nothing wrong with a shitty site, but damn, I'd like to at least be able to find what I was looking for. It makes my eyes hurt looking at it. lol

Its not a site where you find what YOU are looking for. He breaks the biggest news stories. He actually doesnt do shit. He just posts news articles from all over the net. However, he does have connections in DC and around the world. So, he often posts a blurb about the latest breaking news. He actually "creates" the news that the US media follows.

A report on ebaumsworld and them being one of the largest value click media publishers had them down at something like $3-$5m and they only claim to have 1 million uniques a day. If that site has 30m it must me making alot more then that though. But lol dp has a higher alexa then that site.

I see. I guess I was confused on how the site was presented. I didn't see any categories or anything like that just a bunch of links and on the surface it looks like shit. But a very good piece of shit :) Must be doing something right.

From what I understand the media was sitting on the Lewinsky story, and and matt drudge just had some sources that told him about it so he broke it first.

It's fairly easy to replicate. Just hire a dedicated editor to quickly skim over hundreds of rss feeds then post links to a page.

I don't think it will get as big as Drudge though since Drudge got big because of it's gossippy "scoops" like Monica Lewinski's semen-stained dress, etc.

I DO see an opening for news sites with commentaries or other forms of info that will help people DIGEST the news.
