Ebola Virus - should we be worried?

It is insignificant.
That's a matter of opinion.

The only thing it does is update the SARS definition to include things like ebola since all of the previous SARS worries dealt with airborne communicable viruses.
The page is shorter than most of my run-on sentences, of course I read it and understand it.

That doesn't explain why he needed to issue an executive order to make such a small change though. Nor does it make the event that prompted this signature any less suspect to me. The bottom line is though; he's used his pen once again to increase the number of situations that he can shoot you dead in.

Since there's currently an outbreak in Africa and we're purposefully bringing two infected Americans back to the states, it makes sense to update quarantine protocols.
What makes even more sense is that when a sociopath sees an opportunity to grab even more power while people like you defend his actions, he will fucking do so.

It's just good medical science. Maybe a little more time reading the New England Journal of Medicine and a little less time reading InfoWars is in order.
I haven't watched a single clip from Alex Jones & his network in a good 2 years now... Mainly because he'd see this normal, everyday powergrab as a chance to talk about communist plots or NWO conspiracy.

Just because something is a conspiracy doesn't make it unusual.

All the recent change has done is remove SARs from the listing specifically and replace it with a broader definition that is more appropriate for a world where we haven't seen SARs since 2004 but another coronavirus could well emerge tomorrow.

It has literally nothing to do with ebola, seeing how ebola is not a respiratory disease and it's already specifically listed in Section 1 (a) of the original EO - "Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers (Lassa, Marburg, Ebola, Crimean-Congo, South American, and others not yet isolated or named)."

Here's a link to the original EO from April, 2003: CDC - SARS - Executive Order 13295 - Revised List Of Quarantinable Communicable Diseases

Here's a link to the 2005 amendment which added emergent influenza strains as it was something we were worried about at the time (lots of talk of another Spanish Flu, etc): http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2005-04-05/pdf/05-6907.pdf

..and here's a link to the most recent amendment which simply replaces Section 1 (b) from the original EO with a broader definition for emergent coronaviruses as opposed to specifically listing SARs - again, which we have not seen anywhere since 2004.

TL;DR: you're both wrong, the revision is unrelated to ebola and isn't a powergrab but merely a revision of a literally, scientifically outdated clause in the original EO. In all likelihood this was low-priority legislation that only got shuffled up within the stack because of a recent focus on public health due to the outrageous overreaction to bring a pair of folks with Ebola to BSL-4 lab..which already has multiple strains of ebola on the campus.

Interesting AMA on reddit the other day with Prof. Stephen Morse:

Science AMA Series: I'm Stephen Morse, a Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. I work to understand the factors leading to emerging infectious diseases like Ebola, and can answer your questions on the current outbreak. AMA!

I am also the Global Co-Director of PREDICT, the part of the USAID Emerging Pandemic Threats Program for identifying potential emerging infections and their sources. And I’m the founding chair of ProMED—the nonprofit international Program to Monitor Emerging Diseases. In 1994, a few colleagues and I created ProMED-mail, an international network for outbreak reporting and disease monitoring using the Internet, a free service available to anyone interested.
In recent days, I’ve been quoted on the ongoing Ebola outbreak in USA Today and I was featured on MSNBC and Huffington Post Live.
I will be answering questions starting at 2PM ET (11AM PT). Ask Me Anything!

Essentially developed countries do not really need to worry about it as long as we maintain good hygiene practices.

Our esteemed guest has arrived.

If you think this just materialized out of nature, then you need to open your eyes to what might be going on. Just like the emergence of the AIDS VIRUS.

Please try to do some type of meditation daily.

Be careful what you eat, and where.

Personally, I believe we humans have the immune system to withstand most diseases as long as you maintain a healthy daily habit.

If you drink, use drugs and smoke, then your immune system is structurally corrupted. Hopefully, everyone would remain safe and sound.

Yeah Im sure meditation will prevent a 90 percent fatality rate level 4 virus like Ebola.

I think he means daily meditation prior to contraction, so you don't wear down and end up a raving psycho redneck before infection.

I'd rather spend a week in a closet with Galacon's forum persona than 5 minutes in a room with someone who turns to naturopathic bullshit in the face of deadly disease.

The level of arrogance it takes to believe that we can somehow will our immune system to overcome a disease which over tens of millions of years has perfected the art of annihilating primates is fascinating, though.

Seriously though, who keeps selling these '08/'09 accounts?

We need to protect our computer from virus like ebola ,for this there is only one solution to download best antivirus software that protect our system.

If you need any proof that religion is retarded I give you

Dr Kent Brantly beams with delight after beating Ebola with experimental serum | Mail Online

tl;dr Man has Ebola. Is dying. Is given experimental drug that cures him. Man believes that it was actually prayers that cured him (although the drug may have helped).

'As I lay in bed getting sicker and weaker, each day I prayed that God would help me be faithful in my illness.

'I cannot thank you enough for your prayers and your support, but what I can tell you is that I serve a God who answers prayers. God saved my life, a direct answer to thousands and thousands of prayers.'

I don't even begin to fathom the stupidity of some people. Where the fuck is his massive gratitude to science and modern medicine? No it was really God that cured him (oh and in the meantime forsakes the thousands of black people who have died of Ebola?!?!)

On a positive note, it looks like we may have a cure :)

n.b. not fucking prayer
