Lucille Ball during a period when there were NO women controlling anything in TV, she built a production company, created a show, and maintained all of the rights to that show (smart move).

Michael Dell - I love seeing people go from basically nothing to being insanely wealthy, which is exactly what he did. Pretty cool story.

And I second Jim Koch. This is a guy with a true passion for his product, which I believe is what made him and his beer so damn successful...and fucking delicious!
 
I can't believe everyone mentioning people from hip-hop and not bringing up Russell Simmons

Co-founder of Def Jam records, creator of Def Comedy Jam, Phat Farm Clothing, Rush Communications, Hip-hop Summit and all his philanthropic causes.

He didn't event hip-hop, he's the original hustler of urban culture.

I grew up pretty much a hoodlum, and his book really inspired me to make things happen. As I go into my 30's now, it's probably one of the most humbling and inspiring books I've read as an entrepreneur.

I'm kind of surprised by that 50 video, I knew he was savvy but I've never heard him in an interview like that. I have the 48 laws of power, I'll have to go snag his book to see what it's about.

Every high school and/or college student should be required to read this IMHO


 
^ Wes makes it seem so easy to 'just do something better'. I truly believe you need to be lucky and be in the right spot at the right time in order to be successful. But hey, maybe that's why the article isn't about me.
