Park across the street, internet is free at most hotels I've been to, ask for a corporate discount (if you have your EIN).

Give me [insert free thing] and I'll leave you guys a great review on tripadvisor... don't do it and you'll get one star and a book report on how bad this place is.

The ball's in your court.

Hehehe, nice.

I get my free shit because they've more often that not completely fucked up somewhere along the line and my booking has been lost or I've got a shitty room or I had to carry my own bags in or whatever. Nothing like raising your voice just enough for the other customers in line to hear to enact preventative measures.

Hook me up with your brilliant stories to get free shit at hotels :)

get a leather bound notepad and put a "hotelreview.net" or whatever on the cover. Have it very visible when you check in.(IE Pull your pen or wallet out of it)

This works!!

haha yeah, ask the woman behind the desk to hold onto it while you go to the bathroom

the book "The Art of Deception" teaches you how to do all this, its pretty much the social engineering standard.

Trip advisor is a good one to fake.

Another thing you could do if you're staying at a chain hotel like Choice (Sleep, Comfort, Quality etc), IHG (Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Intercontinental etc), Starwood (Westin, Sheraton) is wear one of the brands on a polo or something. A lot of those hotels aren't owned by the parent company. Independant owners pay an annual fee to "fly the flag" out front so to speak. They also have to remain compliant to a set of rules that protects the brand. So, when someone asks you why you're weaing a Westin shirt, just tell them you're with "brand compliance" and you "hope you enjoy your stay, because it makes your job a lot more pleasant".

Another thing you can do is act foreign. Hotels love people coming in from other countries and view them as higher value guests in a lot of cases. They typically stay longer, spend more money in the gift shop, eat at the hotel restaurants (much more than American guests) and ring up phone charges on their bill.

"Hi! I'm [In the military|A small business owner|a stockholder in your company|a mason] and was told by [A friend of mine|A coworker|someone on my flight|a representative at my last stop] that you offer [a discount|a free upgrade] for people like me - is that true?

This works quite well - just try and judge which angle would be best for the situation you find yourself in.

really? REALLY?

How much do you think the person behind the counter makes? Try $50 and "thank you very much for all of your help."

Amazing what taking care of those making nothing financially does. Plus you don't look like a "It's a fucking black card give me the presidential beyotch" douche.

I found if i check in after 4, i usually get an upgraded room since all the regular rooms start to fill up, also smile at the persona nd just ask if any upgrades are available and compliment them.

In Vegas slip them a $50 and you'll be in a suite in a second you can try it at other hotels too but i know in vegas $$$ talks

I generally do this whilst handing over my credit card for payment and then say "Oh, are there any upgrades for Platinum?"
I've often get a knock on the door an hour later with a gift basket and sometimes vouchers for hotel services.

I'll have to try the social engineering thing.
A huge number of hotels down here are owned by the Accor group, and they actually sell the shirts in the gift shops of some of the larger ones.

Tablet Hotels FTW

Or just book through Tablet Hotels. Perks are pretty good. Mostly recently i used it to book in NYC and I got free wireless internet, a room upgrade with king size bed, late checkout (4 pm), a freakin champagne bottle and a personalized letter. They even left me a special surprise in the night table (see pic)...
