What do you think of your french press? Have only used one a couple times. A friend had a single serve stainless frenchpress cup, it seemed kinda like a pain in the ass. Havent used a good one though. Is the coffee better?

French presses are definitely a pain in the ass, imo. I have a drip coffee machine, and that can run through a decent amount of coffee before having to empty the filter, and cleaning is very very easy. The timer feature is fucking amazing too.

Has to be Colombian or Kenyan, whole bean fresh ground and brewed using an Italian percolator if not a Cafetiere. Look out for single origin Beans they can be real nice but specialist stores only in the UK. If you can find a Monmouth shop you're on to a winner!

Has anyone tried Vietnamese Weasel Coffee?

French Press Coffee taste way better than a Keurig, and a noticeable amount better than a drip machine. I won't drink it any other way now. Drinking good coffee from a french press is like smoking a good cigar.

I`m not sure why people say it takes longer? I think it's actually faster than a standard drip.

1. Load up french press with some coffee
2. Put water on stove (We have a gas stove, and it heats water fast)
3. Put water in french press
4. Let sit 3-5 minutes
5. Drink

Unless you have a machine that you keep ON all the time with near ready to go water so it's "instant" this is about the same time it takes my drip machine to warm up, and produce a pot, in fact it may be a little quicker.

I never left my Keurig run 24/7 so I had to let that warm-up too.
And, honestly, french press compared to Keurig is not even comparable, nothing that came out of my Keurig ever compared to French Press.

Unlike some of you guys I don't have to run off to a 9-5 so I`m in no rush ;) An extra 3 minutes or 5 minutes while I take care of the dogs in the morning no big deal :)

Remember the first step to good coffee is good water.

If you're using shitty city chlorinated tap water with fluoride you're doing it wrong.

$34/lb. You can really taste the equality.

Do you have a recommendation on a French press? I have heard this before and it's piqued my interests.

Was doing Seattle's Best for along time until Starbucks came out with their grocery store stuff too. Now it's pretty much all Starbucks. 2 pots a day, usually cut in half with some decaf.
I should try some more high end stuff.

Drinking Starbucks is like drinking battery acid. You could prob save money while getting a better cup of coffee

You def. want to get Glass or SS not plastic.

This is the model I have that I use regularly.

I have a couple smaller ones made out of glass but the volume is too low for anything but a 1 cup, so I end up using the SS insulated one instead.

You are going to want to experiment with the grind, the amount of coffee, and your water. I add a bit of celtic sea salt and that REALLY brings out the flavor. (It doesn't add much sodium to an entire pot either <200mg)

Make it too strong and you won't pick-up all the flavors make it too weak and it's like normal weak coffee but better, lol. Also, the amount of time you let it sit before "pressing" it is important to the flavor. I also experimented with the grind (coarse <--> fine) ratio. Don't use water that's been over heated you can pick-up a burned/overdone flavor.... if you forget and your water boils for even 30 seconds I'd reheat fresh water... I get mine right to bubbles and yank it off.

If you like cream or milk I suggest finding some FRESH "raw" milk.

Doing what I've mentioned above w/a french press is a different world for your taste buddddddddys :)

Even using cheap coffee in a french press and water that's on hand is still better than drip, keirig, pods, etc..

Thanks. I have been using a pinch of kosher salt for years. It does wonders for even the shittiest coffee. Another tip I learned from a friend was to gently heat up your milk. As you mention, don't burn the milk. By adding warm milk you are able to maintain the flavor and temp of the coffee. I think it's high time to pickup a press.
