Ok so I buy a bluetooth kit for my new car to keep the missus happy. Get it sent to my Toronto address from a company in the states.
A week later Fedex drop off a box, and I ask "do I not have to pay customs duty" no real answer from the guy just a shrug. Now 15 days after receiving the item I get a bill from Fraudex for $79 for customs duty & their brokerage fee. There's $37 for customs duty & $42 for their brokerage fee, I have no issue with the customs fee, but for them to charge a brokerage fee on top of the $25 I paid for delivery is a scam.
If they had asked for the money on the day I would have told them to take the item back and got my money back through my credit card company or the company! I cannot find any list of brokerage fees, and they never asked me if I want them to be my broker. I have since found UPS & fraudex do this to bump up cheap shipping fees. USPS/Canada post charge just a nominal $5 fee for brokerage. UPS have a sliding scale of fees depending on the value of the goods - how the hell can they do this there is no more work involved for a $50 item than a $250 item?
I am waiting for them to call me back to protest against this, does anyone have any suggestions to escape this fee?
