in a house ...
Ok so I buy a bluetooth kit for my new car to keep the missus happy. Get it sent to my Toronto address from a company in the states.

A week later Fedex drop off a box, and I ask "do I not have to pay customs duty" no real answer from the guy just a shrug. Now 15 days after receiving the item I get a bill from Fraudex for $79 for customs duty & their brokerage fee. There's $37 for customs duty & $42 for their brokerage fee, I have no issue with the customs fee, but for them to charge a brokerage fee on top of the $25 I paid for delivery is a scam.

If they had asked for the money on the day I would have told them to take the item back and got my money back through my credit card company or the company! I cannot find any list of brokerage fees, and they never asked me if I want them to be my broker. I have since found UPS & fraudex do this to bump up cheap shipping fees. USPS/Canada post charge just a nominal $5 fee for brokerage. UPS have a sliding scale of fees depending on the value of the goods - how the hell can they do this there is no more work involved for a $50 item than a $250 item?

I am waiting for them to call me back to protest against this, does anyone have any suggestions to escape this fee?

They are fine for me. 1 day delivery.
Dude it takes like 3 days for me to get something from a kid who sends a letter from the next town

Mortal Kombat for Sega Genesis is the best game ever

I disagree, although a very good game, I believe Donkey Kong is the best game ever.

Donkey Kong Sucks!

YOU SUCK!

Um yeah, aside from all this I would go through the process just as if you were buying again and read all the terms of service and stuff to see if you missed it in fine print. Either way, when you speak with them, be very cordial and just explain you never realized you would incur a fee like this. You have been a customer for a long time and will continue being a good paying customer, but you think this is unfair to do to someone who has been so loyal to UPS over the years.

Just ask please, now that I know these are the charges I face, I will calculate this into my shipping fees when I buy. Assert the loyal customer part and how you think it was an honest mistake on both sides, you just hope to be reimbursed a fair amount. If they push back, tell them you HAVE been a loyal customer but if they are not willing to overlook something so small (in the scheme of things) to someone who is so loyal to them, then you will take your business to someone who appreciates it.

UPS is willing to void the customs brokerage fee the first time you are surprised by it. I don't know if FedEx will do the same, but you can call them and ask/beg.

Thanks Arz good tip, I will take this path when I speak with a human being.

trigatch4 - thanks good idea but, there site has very little regarding shipping, only thing was
Why buy on E-Bay or one of the "gray market" web vendors when you can deal with an authorized, stocking dealer and receive a full N. America warranty? We only stock fresh units with the latest shipped firmware. We ship same day for orders placed by 11AM Pacific Time and ALWAYS send the Fedex Ground tracking information. Save even more on combo shipping when ordering with one of our harness adapters

This is not a matter of the $40 (ok it is) but more the way I never chose the shipper, was never made aware of the fact they have this hidden charge, was never asked if I wanted them as a broker, and how they hit you with the bill 2 weeks after you have the goods.

That sucks, I'm in Canada too, and in the past I always preferred fedex because they *didn't* charge the "extortion fee" that UPS charged for brokerage. I guess times are changing, and that Fed-Ex has seen how UPS can get away with bending the customer over with a rubber fist, and they're going to do it too.
