Sight radius and shouldering have to do with the accuracy improvement, not the longer barrel.

I've seen guys pop plates all day long at 100yds with a typical 9mm with a holo sight. I myself have had 50/50 accuracy on steel gongs at 50yds with the right gun/ammo combo.

Well, the sight radius is the distance between the rear sight and the front sight; i.e the length of the barrel. The longer barrel, will give you more precision because the further the front sight is from the rear, the smaller the fraction of a degree it moves per 1/10th inch of your input.

Conversely, the shorter sight radius gun's has a gross scale of motion for every 1/10th inch. If in a 6" gun, that 1/10th inch movement translates to an offset of 1/2" at 25 yards, that same movement will translate to a larger offset from a short barreled gun - perhaps as much as 1-1/2 to 2".

Of course you don't NEED a long barrel to be accurate, but to say it doesn't HELP is not what I would call accurate information. There is a lot that goes into it. I just implied it would help improve it, but your right, its not solely dependent upon it.

Since this thread got bumped... might as well admit I bought a Glock for carry. G 30SF

So, I still get my 45 ACP in a more comfortable configuration.

I'll be the first to admit, a Glock is WAY more comfortable to carry concealed than a giant ass 1911. The thing I hated the most about the full size 1911 is the sight bite. It would "bite" me in the leg where the barrel overhung the holster.

It's hard to really hate Glocks one you've carried or shot them.

BUT it is a lot of fun to get the Glock guys all riled up when you tell them the 1911 is superior. Ruffled feathers. Cracks me up everytime. :D

Agreed. I'm about 40 - 60% with the 1911 at 100 yards, and prolly closer to 70 - 80% with the S&W Model 19 or Colt Python (S&W edges the Python). Haven't tried with the 30SF yet, so no clue there. Honestly, I'll be happy if I can hit steel 30% of the time with the Glock - if nothing else because I have no trigger time on this one to speak of. This is all with factory ammo. It's way better than the shit I reload for plinking.

I also just bought a reloader thats on the way. My buddy has been showing me how to reload.

I would be extremely cautious about using a Glock with reloaded ammo. It's the #1 way Glocks go Kaboom and blow up. Don't need your day at the range ending like this... Otherwise they are solid gun's, you just don't want to be on the trigger end of a gun that had a blowout.

Thanks, I will be learning reloading under a guy who prides himself on precision and won't think about doing it for myself until he thinks I'm ready...but thanks for showing me this..it definitely enforces the thought that I don't want to rush through my education about reloading and I'll probably put the ammo I do make through some of my other guns first =)

Here is a full disassemble video I did of my Glock 23, full explanation and some trouble shoots for common problems when disassembling.

Sight radius helps a firearm , however you can have a similar effect with target sights or holographic sights (As in my example).

Just picked up my new AR last night. Figured I better get one before California makes them completely illegal. Sucks being limited to the 10 round mags and the bullet button, but it's better than nothing. A friend who's a gunsmith and I built it. Upper is a Del-Ton kit. CQB Red Dot (Only $50 but surprisingly good quality). UTG Pro Quad Rail handguard. DPMS gas block. Magpul PMAG M3 Magazines. I actually don't know which OLL he ended up going with, but we did the machining on it and it's Cal legal so that's all I care about.

Whole thing, optics included cost about $850. Can't wait to get out and put some rounds through it.

Parts commonality is very important to me. A significant number of all the glock parts are compatible, so if in a terrible situation I Had to, i could repair one gun with another. Same with the AR15s.

You and I think alike.... I got like 10-15 ar15s and a shit ton of glocks. Many other rifles and guns, but Primarily focus on 9mm and 223/7.62x39 due to the commonality of it all. I bought them all for this same reason.

And many people think that way in terms of parts/caliber commonality.

Same with reloading components too , if you look hard enough that is.

2 weeks ago I found a place selling AR kits at $400 each, so in that case it was hard not to order a few.

Too bad you live in commiefornia.

Tell me about it. I'm sure all of the assholes considering shooting up a school in California will be doing it with a Cal legal AR, 10 round clip and no quick mag release. Yeah right. So what fucking good does all of the restrictions do anyway? Nada!

I got my kit at MidwayUSA.com for $484. $400 is the lowest I've heard of. That's a great deal.

Yeah... All my friends, would ask me stupid questions though like "Why do you always buy ar-15 uppers and lowers at these gun shows?" "Or why don't you buy this XD or 911, why do you always buy these glock 17's or other various glocks". Same questions with "why do you always buy thousand round bricks of 223, 7.62, 9mm, 22lr and so on... ...............Well, it's the most common caliber, most common guns - so if shit did hit the fan, odds are if you had to run a muk like on the walking dead or whatever, the probability of finding parts and ammo would be alot higher compared to that of a 8mm, 410, 10ga shotgun, etc. etc. etc. ............and if something went wrong, I'd have parts (or could find parts), or would have a parts kit for my 10+ rifles as opposed to 10 different part kits...

I mean yeah, don't get me wrong. I got Nationalist K98's that shoot 8mm rounds, tec-9's, m11s, a .50 beowulf rifle, 357, 308, 30.06, 38spc, 40, 45, I could go on... But yeah I get stupid when it comes to the following calibers; 22lr, 223, 7.62x39, 9mm.
