First site was a typical fangirl thing for a certain rock group on geoshitty (pre-yahoo era). Got very pleased with all the hits I was getting, since I tended to type up every tiny, itty article or mention from all the latest magazines and newspapers I could find. Had quite a hefty amount of traffic so started a forum. Spent many an evening basking in the complements and 'yay kofiannan! She rocks for doing this site!' type comments in the guestbook AND the slambook (you had to have both in those days). Then I went on holiday for 2 weeks without updating, coming back to find emails and messages asking why the fuck the site hadn't been updated, you BITCH etc etc. Well, I was STUNNED. I mean, there I was slaving away to make a nice site and they just expected it all on a silver platter. So I posted a message on the forum saying how hard I worked and how I didn't understand why people couldn't give me a break. Next day about half of the THREE HUNDRED replies were in the 'stop being mean to her' camp and the other half were all 'stupid asshole, no-one asked her to keep the site updated blah blah blah'. Sooooo, yeah, I took down the site, I stopped being a pathetic fangirl and I never wasted my time doing anything work intensive without income ever again. Glad I did it though because it was a good life lesson.
