what bank do you keep you u.s. savings at?

does anyone know of any reputable banks that have a decent interest rate for u.s. accounts but are also CDIC insured?

I can't find any that are CDIC insured.

Thanks

US

I have a US dollar account at my local credit union and a US dollar credit card from CIBC

works well

What I want is a Canadian merchant account that I can charge US customers in US dollars

Yeah Mortal told me about TD Borderless and you get preferred exchanges rates, blah blah blah. You just need 3K minimum balance. I'm happy with it.

Why keep a US account, I get a sweet conversion rate when its transfered over to the canadian dollar right now so I just keep everything in the canadian bank.

A US account at a Canadian bank is what we're talkin about. If you get a good one you get a preferred exchange rate which is usually about a penny more than the standard rate.

At TD the account is only $5 a month so as long as you exchange over $600 a year it's worth it or as icomunik said $3k balance waves the fee.

Do you guys have to call and/or visit the branch everytime you want to pay off your credit card bills using a US$ bank account? That was the case with RBC, and I just couldn't bother doing it on a day-to-day basis. So I have to use a CA$ credit card, and am taking a hit daily on the conversions. I would love a bank that would allow US$ transactions to be conducted through online banking.

Any suggestions?

I dont have a US account but last year CIBC started allowing US deposits in their bank machines so I no longer have to go to the branch for that. You could check with them.

I couldn't tell you, I don't have a US Visa.

I have a BMO USD account and a BMO USD MC. They just changed it so that you can transfer straight from the account to the MC to pay it off online. No more going to the branch.
