Most of you won't give a fuck, but those who enjoyed the movie might want to read up on this guy....

Victor Anatoliyevich Bout, who holds at least five passports and uses as many as seven aliases, is identified as the businessman responsible for fueling civil wars across Africa, including conflicts in Sierra Leone, Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is accused of ferrying heavy weapons, automatic rifles and ammunition from eastern Europe to rebel groups that control diamond mines.

Between 1992 and 1995, Bout made an alleged $50 million from supplying several Afghan groups.

Disarmo - Arms and the man

What I loved about this guy is he literally sells guns to both sides. Even the US Government used him as a subcontractor to transport ammunition for the Iraq war.

Does this look like the world's biggest arms dealer?

He looks more like Alex Trebec's Russian brother.

I had jury duty this morning and spent 6 hours reading about this guy.
The best part is he's yet to be arrested despite all the investigations.
Interpol has a warrant for him but Moscow won't extradite him. The US also had a warrant for him before the Iraq contract came through..
 
Actually it's the US that is more or less blocking his arrest. The uk has also used him.

The french want to arrest him, but are being blocked.

He has sold to the Taliban AND the Northern Alliance too and had a stake in blood diamond cutting facilities in Africa (which was shut down) (you can't trace a diamond after it's cut).

Amazing what you can accomlish with a few Antonovs.
 
One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I think I watched it around 4 times. :P Another good one very similar to it is Blood Diamond.
 
Nice article; if he was 18 years old and was born in the US he'd be an affiliate marketer.

my friend and I just watched Blood Diamond a few minutes ago, and I thought it really sucked; very generic. Lord of War however was kick ass.
 
I thought Blood Diamond was pretty damn good actually. Before I saw it, I thought it was going to be some lame flick, but since I do have a fascination with the underworld of guns and diamonds I guess I was bound to like it afterall.
 
Lord of War is a GREAT movie. That scene where Cage is low and sniffs the gun power/coke combo and comes face to face with the hyena is probably my favorite scene. It's always cool when movies are based on real events and real people. Thanks for the link, Stan!
 
Too bad nobody caught him when he was on the run. I'd like to see him serve the time he deserves for all the children he's indirectly put a bullet in in Africa. I don't think he'd ever see the light of day again.

Ditto. And after watching Lord of War, which I loved. I realized that Jared Leto (Head singer of 30 seconds to mars, the brother in LoW) only plays drug addicts in most of his movies lol.

Damn good movie.
