Exclusive: FTC moving closer to Google antitrust case - sources | Reuters

The majority of top decision-makers at the Federal Trade Commission believe that an antitrust case should be brought against Google

Four of the FTC commissioners have become convinced after more than a year of investigation that Google illegally used its dominance of the search market to hurt its rivals, while one commissioner is skeptical, the sources said.

Companies rarely talk publicly about their dealings with the FTC, but consumer reviews website Yelp and comparison shopping website Nextag have both complained about Google during open hearings in Congress.

Google rivals specializing in travel, shopping and entertainment have accused Google, the world's No. 1 search engine, of unfairly giving their web sites low quality rankings in search results to steer Internet users away from their websites and toward Google products that provide similar services.

Anti-trust is just a way of competitors damaging a market leader.

This sort of thing won't be good for the internet or tech. Government intervention NEVER creates, and CANNOT create a positive outcome.

I don't get it, why the fuck can't Google put whatever it wants in its search results. It's their damn product, why should they have to be fair to competitors? What kinda retarded shit is this.

I hope Google delists the FTC from their search results.

The way society is currently constructed, none of us is allowed to explicitly own anything.

But no one recognizes that.

And the walls came down all the way to hell
Never saw them when they're standing
Never saw them when they fell

People have extended legitimacy to the state as their protector and benefactor, not realizing the state considers itself shepherd and executioner. We are sheep, raised for our wool. We don't own the wool. We only wear it until it is shorn from our bodies. So it goes with Google, and so it goes with all resources.

While I know very little of the details how then should we look at the break up of At&T in the US?

On the surface it seems that it was quite a boon to consumers. Maybe someone around here knows the ways in which it was a negative or is the argument unlimited long distance etc would have occurred anyway without the breakup?

Because, politicians and lesser quality search engines need something to do. Instead of search engines like blekko and bing focusing on marketing their product or improving their algo, they just go cry to nanny government because it's too hard to compete with Google.

And you already know the deal with worthless politicians and government workers.

All that being said, fuck Google and the horse they rode in on.
