Fuck doctors.

It worked for 8 weeks before the pain came back as bad as ever. I almost feel like the 8 weeks of relief was more due to shock on the body(increased adrenaline) and lingering anesthesia.

Aw shit man, that sucks :( . Can they fix it?

As someone who is a few months away from graduating pharmacy school - my backup, as I originally went to be a pediatrician - this thread has everything.

Comedy, tragedy, drama, broscience, hypocrisy... you name it. Awesome stuff.

There are quite a few bubbles in here that need bursting, but instead I'll contribute by asking...

If you honestly believe you are capable of diagnosing your own health issues - why are you seeking a physician? With the internet, you can:

- easily look up signs and symptoms to determine what you might have
- determine the best therapeutic approach... pharmacotherapy, natural health products, etc.
- order brand-name remedies that can be shipped right to your door... even pharmaceuticals if needed

...so, why bother? Why seek the expert if you think you can do it better, faster, easier, cheaper, etc. without them?

Interested to hear these responses.

That's pretty much what I do but, I just go to the doctor for the prescription. I don't trust overseas pharmacies, you might get underdosed medication, you don't know what you're getting, maybe it's just bunk. Anyway I don't have much experience in getting pharmaceuticals overseas etc. maybe things have changed but, I probably still wouldn't trust it.

After I've done all my research I'll visit the doctor and tell them what medications I want to be prescribed and explain my research and it doesn't seem to be a problem. Matter of fact just went to my doctor on Friday, since I want to get put on Metformin to help stabilize my blood sugar levels since I'm type 2 diabetic. First I did quite a bit of research on it and after I decided it was what I wanted to do I went and saw her, explained everything and she said she wouldn't have any problem prescribing it and that was it.

Having a severe chronic pain problem and almost no help from my doctors has really made me lose faith in the medical system. Too many doctors "covering their asses" instead of doing whats best for the patient.

With all due respect to the troubles of OP and others reading this thread...

When was the last time your doctor asked about your diet? Or exercise? Or how many gallons of soda you're chugging per day?

It's pretty rare these days to find a doctor who actually knows how to treat the root cause and not the symptoms. It's how they're trained.

What's the #1 most prescribed drug in the world? And #2 and #3? I assume they teach you this in pharmacy school.

Here's a good start in the right direction (IMO)...

The Free Market: Four-Step Health Care Solution, A

And why seek an expert? Because that's what experts are for - if I'm dying I'm trusting an expert over youtube. It'd be awesome of experts could be trusted - not to discredit many of the positive things to come out of the medical community.

Interesting thread, I'm with most of you here who don't like the Western Medicine mentality of treating the symptoms and not the problem.

Good luck to those who are fighting or have family members fighting disease and illness. Here's a quick riddle/joked for some perspective....

Q: What do you call a med student who gets a D on their final exam?

A: Doctor

Really sorry to hear about that OP. I'll share my shit doctor story as well.

My wife has a rare blood disorder called ITP. It just means when her counts are low, she can bleed easily and not stop bleeding. Anyway, she was pregnant with our 2nd and was on some steroids to help get her blood count up before she delivered. Rule is you don't quit steroids (Prednisone) instantly, you have to wean off of them over time. Well she got to the hospital the day the C Sec was scheduled and the hospital took her off the steroids and didn't tell her.

The C-Section went fine and then a couple hours later her blood pressure spiked to 200/150 and the staff is freaking out because they can't get it to come down. They got it a little lower and in a couple hours it hit 200 again and they were concerned she was going to have a stroke. She had a massive migraine and ended up passing out from the pain. The hospital EMT team came charging in, which apparently never happens in the maternity ward and it turned into a complete nightmare.

I'm holding our brand new son while my wife's on the hospital room floor with a crew trying to get her to regain consciousness. Finally they did and she was in the hospital for another week while they tried to get her bp under control.

When we finally realized they can taken her off the Prednisone it was pretty clear what was nearly caused her to have a stroke and die. The hospital didn't want to admit that's what caused the problems, and they never bothered to contact her hematologist to find out about her blood medicines or treatments. When her OB/GYN found out about the prednisone thing the day after the drama, she put her right back it and the blood pressure evened back out and then she was able to wean off of it completely over the next couple of weeks

The damn hospital dropped the ball and could have killed someone because they didn't bother to pay attention to her meds or call her specialist to get more information on her blood condition.

On top of that, her hematologist never followed up with her either after she was home from the hospital because he was still on vacation for another month. She changed hematologists a few weeks later.

Hospitals are where healthy people go to die...I'm convinced of that.

While there are certainly horror stories related to doctors/hospitals/healthcare, the reality is that most doctors treat most patients properly and medicine has increased the average lifespan of people.

I realize that improved sanitary conditions, easier/cheaper access to healthier foods, and improved general knowledge on staying safe virus/bacteria wise has helped average lifespan, but so has medicine and doctors.

I think most doctors do a great job, but are constrained by the system they're in, whether private or public.

BTW, this isn't a post to slight those who have had real problems with doctors that have led to further sickness or death. My father had a similar experience receiving shit treatment for a case of Legionnaire's disease he caught a few years ago that almost killed him.

My father died 2 months ago, he was 61. They just fucked up everything. Bunch of cocksuckers.

It's hard to know how many doctors are doing more good than harm - intentional or not. In the US & Canada, the health care system appears to be setup like most other industries; with misaligned incentives where only a minority of the providers actually serve the end users best interests.
