Hmmm... maybe we should start up a Wickedfire quarterly (or yearly?) event where we pick a non-profit and work as a group to re-do their website/SEO/social media presence pro-bono?
Might bring us some good karma, since we are assholes most of the time.

I am in, I can help with SEO links.. could donate some high quality links, even have some dog related.
I've been wanting to use my domain www.Cash4Pets.com for something good. Maybe I'll put together a site to collect donations for abused animals or something like that. I like the idea of helping the shelters by doing pro bono design work.
There was a thread awhile back where the gist of it was dogs or people. I could be miss-remembering but the general consensus seemed to be fuck your fellow homo sapiens, dogs ftw. I know this can be a callous group but it is also a group with incredible combined resources. Everybody's time is precious so if a joint effort is occasionally garnered for a good deed then maybe careful consideration should be given to who the recipient is?
The dog site seems to be a worth while cause and this kind of thing gives all but the most hardened warm fuzzies. Just remember though there are people dying out there and children going hungry. Where ever you chose to point your resources can have both a powerful effect on the target as well as what could have been for those that do not receive the benefit.
Just a thought if you organize.
Some causes get enough attention as bad as it sounds, but they can take away from other causes that need attention as well. One example is Breast cancer. I'm not against charity for breast cancer and research, but they have massive publicity and resources - have to help out the causes that don't have a marketing machine like them too.
I can only do so much, plus I'm too far from Columbia (1.5-2hr drive, 123->85->385->26). I give hours of teaching to local high school bands because I know how to help them improve, and I don't charge them for it (including music writing, which can be $2000+, and for a public school band it can be tough). I've worked at a soup kitchen and seen it first hand. This dog is just one that particularly hit me for some reason.
Here are a few thoughts:
1) We should probably start up a new thread w/ ideas. "Fuck people" probably isn't the best title for a charity/pro-bono work thread!
2) We could have non-profits apply to our group/organization to do the work for them. What if we did a bunch of work for an animal shelter, for example, and the webmaster was MIA or they didn't like what we did or didn't want it? I think we would have someone reach out to the organization and make an offer before any work is done. We would also need a written contract that doesn't tie us down to anything, and would let us promote the site.
3) Ideas for what we can "do" for someone:
- Re-design their site
- Transform site into a CMS/make it easier for them to manage and add new functionality to the site (in the animal shelter example, allow the staff to easily add new pets for adoption, custom widgets, RSS feeds could alert potential owners when new pets are available, etc)
- Provide blog and site content (I'm looking at you, copywriters)
- On-page SEO
- Local SEO
- Link building (we should probably stick to white hat/article marketing etc, I would stay away from xrumer/blog posts)
- Set up ways for people to donate money to their organization

Animal mistreatment is a HUGE problem here in Philadelphia. Since I moved here in 07 I can't begin to count the number of times I have read that animals have been set on fire, kicked for sport, found dead in parks (usually they end up being Pits involved in dog fighting)- and the worst, in my opinion- was just two weeks ago:
