Obama's speech was absurd. He's trying to do the same thing that every Democrat has tried to do. Which is take more money from the people who make more money. What people don't seem to understand is that for our economy to flourish people have to spend money. Now, do you think the guy making $200,000 a year MIGHT spend a bit more than the guy making $37,000 yearly? Not bashing anyone who don't make as much, but that's the way it works. More money, more spending. So, Obama (and most other Dems) want to take advantage of those making an above average living by taxing them even more. I'm not sure how most of y'all think but if I have to give more of my money away then obviously I'm not going to spend as much on the random shit that makes our economy go 'round.
The fact Obama felt the need to explain it like we're all fucking idiots and throw in some scary words and possible scenarios doesn't make him any better. In fact, it makes him worse.
Let's not forget Obama has spent an enormous amount of time on that retarded health care bill, making sure tobacco companies get butt-fucked (why you would want to screw with one of the few things in the US that will consistently sell, thus making you more tax dollars is beyond me. Totally different subject though), literally just handing over money to states to attempt to pull us out of the recession (fucktard of a move), and putting troops into Afghanistan only to look like the "hero" and pull them out a year and a half later. It's not like they were doing that much folks and I appreciate the military. The people who killed Osama was a team of less than 40. Nothing against the military and I wouldn't have even bothered to bring this up if it wasn't for the calling back of the troops at almost the same time as the killing of Bin Laden.
Now all of that above and more has caused our debt to raise 35% since he has been in office.

Well enjoy seeing the wealth gap continue to expand, slashing spending on infrastructure and basic needs, science budgets (e.g. Nasa) cut. But it's cool - the ultra rich pay a few percentage points less in tax, maybe America can just turn into a land of 10% of rich people with a sea of zombie poor?

You don't have to be utterly selfish and say "fuck you" to everyone who hasn't made it by themselves to be successful, in fact the long term success of the overall economy can only continue if the those at the top don't do that.
Most of us work for our selves on here, what if you hired someone you really like, he was well spoken, funny and just a nice guy. They started working and slowly they continued to fuck up. Coming in late, pissing off clients, doing shit work... How long could you continue to take excuses and apologies until you fired him?

So...you want those who have made themselves successful to give more of their hard earned money back so those who have not risen to the top like them can live better lives? Now you're being vague. Do you mean ALL people who have not been successful? Like even those with all the tools to be successful or just those who have handicaps which hinder them? I'm guessing everyone. Which means that crackhead on the side of the street can live better because those who chose to go get an education and/or work their ass off to make their fat checks are now taxed even more? Or how about that guy who just decided to take advantage of the system? Don't act like these things don't happen, I can go into inner city Birmingham and see it happening all the time with Federal housing. What you're proposing sounds a bit too red for me.

You just forget the most important tax that every government on this world owns: VAT.
This is the flow of money with highest ROI available. No need to collect, no need to register anything. Every time you drink a glass of water you are just pumping money to your government.
Well, the "over the average" earners feed that tax with their high spending.

Dude, look at how much debt the country has accumulated over the past 3 years alone.
Currently, we are borrowing more than the entire country could pay back if every company paid all their earnings to eliminate it.
Notice the huge spike at the end of Bush's presidency and when Obama took over and continued the Democratic Congress' plan to borrow and "stimulate" the economy. That's a failing plan and now you have a secondly raised debt limit to cover it now.
The limit is there for a reason, it's there to say, "Hey fucktards, cut the redundant and useless programs instead of spending money on something that doesn't pay off." When someone is continually spending more than they earn and are in debt, we tell them to cut back and live within their means. This is true for people and it's true for businesses.
Currently, there are MAJOR drains in the budget that need to be either scrapped completely, or have analysts group related programs and cut areas out that aren't self-sufficient.
The government is a business, it's time they be held accountable and act like one - not posturing 24/7 and writing encyclopedia-sized bills that only tack on more useless crap to an already huge pile of shit that doesn't serve its purpose.
