Gaming Digg

yeah not a bad idea really and you can bet he will be pushing his articles to the front page every time.

Cool, it was only a matter of time until somebody did it. Can't really think of a way for Digg to get around this, although there is a rumour that Digg runs SpikeTheVote and is using it to weed out the people willing to game the system. Very unlikely but would be genius if it was true.

I got an idea, how about I write a post about this on my blog and we digg it? :D

Hmm, I actually had the exact same idea some time ago, but I didn't take it any further. It was just not worth it.

It'd totally be worth it, I would imagine the guy who developed this is a marketer himself, you could put your own stories to be dugg whenever you wanted to and that = mad traffic.

I'm sure we can all agree Digg traffic is worthless - no-one from there clicks on any ads (maybe it'd do for CPM campaigns but I'm not really into those). So what'd be the point? I mean other than being able to go around bragging about how you got a bagillion stories on the first page.

There's only that many posts that can be on the first page at the same time => in the extreme you're on the first page for what, 10 minutes? - here's one more thing you can think about.

it actually depends, one time i got on the front page of digg, my earnigns went up only a few dollars

another time it happened, and it was 15 times more than usual

this was with a humor site btw, not articles

You guys are newbs. Its not the direct traffic thats beneficial, its the value of the link from digg and ultimately links from other sites.

Thats why we have gustbook spamming. I can drop links on hundreds PR4+ myspace accounts in a day and thats far better than digg with less uncertainty.

Is this a joke? I once got one of my stories on the front page (the proper way baby, amazing unique content, and adsense made $100+ that day, and like $70 the next.

So yea, you're right man, Digg = no money = worseless.

I didn't see anyone else post on this... I know this thread is old, but check this out:

Spike The Vote Gets Spiked « John Chow dot Com

The site went up on eBay, was bought and turned over to digg, and all the accounts were banned. DOH!

Too bad. It was a great, if unethical, idea. I wonder if someone else will take over the niche (if someone hasn't already).

Ah well.
