Gay Marriage is now legal in California.

At the end of the day - I could really give a shit where somebody puts their genitals. And I'd rather see children raised by ANY loving couple than some of the fucked up parents out there that should never have been allowed to breed!

It's pretty obvious that this judge reversed the law because it will now go to Supreme Court and people will STFU once and for all.

I see that a long way off, not the first time its been voted, and struck down, over and over again. And the supreme court doesn't even want to touch the matter.

Most of the opposition is religious, I don't see how religion is supposed to dictate law, should be pretty clean cut issue. Maybe they should stop calling it marriage licenses and rather 'domestic partnership', then there's no 'religious attachment' to it, problem solved, since you can marry-by-church in whatever state you want (just not legal without the paper). .

Just seems like the whole issue is being pushed to piss off religious people. Everyone knows how obsessed they are about marriage, so the gays keep digging at the term marriage, demanding they have the same term. Why not just agree to take the "civil union" term and equal rights and go on about your business?

I don't give a shit either way TBH, marriage seems like a shady idea to begin with. Here, let me sign over half my belongings and 100% of my balls to you.

It's not a long way off at all. It will go to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals next and then the Supreme Court after that.

Edit: I'm not the only one thinking this. See the first paragraph: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/05/us/05prop.html

I'm not sure why the 2 guys are fucking on paper, but if that's what gets them off, it's fine by me.

But seriously, the 7 million voters can go fuck themselves if they attempt to create a law that violates an individual's natural rights. We don't live in a democracy. It's a constitutional republic for specifically this purpose.

WTF? So my tax dollars pay these guys to rule on controversial shit (and, since they're the highest court, they should have to rule on only the most controversial shit), but for some reason they're allowed to selectively avoid issues that make them uncomfortable?

We should selectively avoid giving them their paychecks. I don't care which way they decide to rule, but they're public officials, so they should be held accountable to do their goddamn job.

I think you've got a great idea there but need to think bigger. We should do that with all elected officials.

Yep, but why not start at the "top"? IMO, Supreme Court shits on all other parts of gov't in terms of raw deciding power. 7 guys get to sit behind closed doors and change laws by writing a short opinionated summary (vs. 100 senators doing the deciding, or the president's "power" to pressure people into doing what he wants and veto all the rest).

Supreme Court's docket should be a fucking wiki/poll mashup webapp. Everyone should have a say but the judges themselves.

Personal perversion is all it is, and no body said they cant fuck.

I dont believe in the ballot system anymore.

From what I remember from PoliSci - the problem with situations like that is that the popular vote is not always the right vote (ei Prop 8 having ever passed in the first place) If we were to go by the popular vote we wouldn't get anywhere. We need a Judicial branch to rule on difficult cases. The amount of time it takes, the technical legalese that some of this crap ends up in...that could all get tossed out a window. But we do need a group of elected officials to look at things from an unbiased perspective. (or as close to one as we can get)

7 Million people voted for proposition 8.
1 Gay Judge said no to that today.

Not to get to off topic here but I have always seen California as the most liberal / progressive state out there. I mean they can do some pretty crazy shit. Which is kinda why I was shocked and dumbfounded when I first heard about the poll results for this. Fucking place has turned into the new bible belt.
