Getting the kid an x-box.... help

get him live if you don't mind...

"Shut the fuck up you're a fuckin noob I'm gonna beat yo fuckin ass.."

then as soon as your kid speaks...

"wtf how old are you? gtfo"

etc.

That's exactly what I was worried about. Might just have to skip the live side of things.

With the FREE silver live membership that comes with it there is no chatting or interactive gaming. It just allows him to get trial games, previews, and to purchase games and expansion packs for the games. (Must have Microsoft Points to purchase.)

It's the Gold Live membership that has the voice and interactive gaming enabled.

By the way, the Xbox 360 does have Parental Control settings that you can utilize.

Definitely DO NOT buy the $100 MS wireless adapter. I picked up a Linksys wrt54g from tiger or somewhere on sale for twenty bucks, put DDWRT micro on it and turned it into a WAP. Not only is the xbox plugged into it, but so is the PS2 and the DVR I built. Works like a charm.

If you do this be sure to check the version of the router with the DDWRT site to be sure it is not one of the versions that you can't put DDWRT on.

Thanks for the tip = actually I think it's gonna be close enough to the router to just hardwire.

Don't spoil the 11 years old. Put counter-strike on the computer and he's good to go!

(Tip saves you $300 right there)

I'm not spoiling him. Read up there - he's earned this money. I might be adding a bit, but he's learned a lot and worked pretty hard for it. Plus he's got about 500 bucks in his college/car fund from his effort. Me adding a hundred to his fund I don't think is spoiling him :)

Skimmed the thread so maybe this was mentioned already.

The 360 is going through some revisions you might want to wait a few weeks to make sure the hardware you get is stable.

My advice don't make him a pussy by getting an Xbox and go buy him a PS3 or PC. He will thank you when he doesn't get the shit kicked out of him by people at school.

YOU GONNA GET RED RING'D NIGGA!

Get PS3, the slim version just came out (also price drop. It's irresistable!)

Then buy him UFC 2009 Undisputed. Guaranteed he won't get bullied in school.

Get the hard drive, unless you want to buy him memory cards so he can save his games and pick them back up later. He can use Xbox live to download demos (keeps you from buying crappy games), movie trailers and more.

This. Wireless, Blue Ray player, wireless controllers (that don't require AA batteries), free online, smaller than a 360.

Plus, if he plugs in a keyboard and a mouse (I think?), he can browse the web right from his ps3.

With that said, he's probably hellbent on getting a 360. So get the new one that just came with the price drop, and probably a copy of halo odst.

I started playing cs when I was in 7th/8th grade. Did wonders for my vocabulary also. Hahahaha.
