Global warming not happening?

Not sure if there's anyone on WF that still denies global warming, but if it's not happening, then why was it warmer in Antarctica last week than in New York?

We are in for a 1m rise in sea levels sometime. It's not even a question of if any more, but when. We've gone so far now, we can't reverse it. We can slow it down, but can't reverse it.

1m rise in sea level. That's going to suck.

We have record cold at the end of winter here... meanwhile it's the end of summer in Antarctica and those temps are what I would expect for the peninsula this time of year, which is actually a separate climate system from the interior of the continent.

But hey, don't let logic get in the way of retarded political-based fear mongering.

Yes, that's what happens with climate change. We had record colds during the winter here too. Got down to +12C at night, which believe it or not, is extremely cold for here.

Dude, it's melting faster than Greenland. I don't know what else to say.

Hopefully, we can find a new planet by summer, because it was damn hot last summer.

I don't really give a shit about global warming. It doesn't matter if we're able to stop or slow it because one day, the sun will swell up and burn this planet to a crisp.

When the sun reaches the end of it's life, this planet and all life will end with it.

Either way, the earth is fucked.

You see problems, I see opportunity:

  1. Invest in Greenland.
  2. Wait for those fuckers in NY to drown (except for Jon, Jon should never drown).
  3. Wait for influx of people moving to Greenland.
  4. Build real estate empire.
  5. Become King of Greenland.

Let's not even take into consideration for a moment the fact that the Earth's climate moves in cycles and every xx,xxx number of years we tend to enter a new period of glaciation. The time between those ice ages is traditionally warmer. I'm not saying our CO2 emission is helping, but might it be that we're just moving into a different part of the cycle?

About 98% of the world's scientists who specialize in various areas of climate would disagree with you.

The Earth's scientists don't believe that our climate is cyclical? I failed algebra and statistics, but you show me a graph with a sine wave, and I'll call that a cycle.

They drill kms deep into places like Antarctica, and from the ice can tell CO2 levels over 100s of 1000s of years. What the earth is experiencing now isn't normal or cyclical.

I can't believe some people still debate this shit. It's about as dumb as that one US Senator who brought a snowball in a ziploc bag into parliament, to prove climate change doesn't exist.

Yeah, because the scientists have a lot more to gain than the mining companies, oil companies, power companies, car manufactures, economists, politicians etc.

What's the worse that can happen by reducing pollution: some old businesses have to change their approach so things can move forward?

I just got back from a trip to New Zealand, where I hiked up to the glaciers. In the last 6 years, the distance they have receded is insane. My guess is that in the next 10-20 years, they'll be gone completely.

Whether you believe in global warming or not, or you think the earth is in some sort of cycle, the fact of the matter is, those glaciers aren't coming back anytime soon....if at all.

Rapid temperature changes happened many times. The current change can be blamed on humans, but is nothing more like the ones caused by super volcanoes every few hundred years: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supervolcano
China - main pollutant is trying to go green slowly, same with US.
imo the cycle could speed up a bit because of humans, but it is happening every so.

I fully believe that man has had an effect on the environment, and has probably accelerated the change in weather patterns. That being said, the Earth also goes through dramatic climate changes on its own, with or without our help.

You ain't gonna be here to see a 1m rise in sea levels. There's nothing you can do to stop it. No one gives a shit what you think. Therefore it's waste of your fucking time caring about it.

Make money. Fuck bitches. Close thread.

I've never seen a scientist disagree that the earth has natural climate cycles.

Humans have an impact on the climate, but when I was a kid the fear was global cooling ("The Coming Ice Age" they called it) and acid rain that would destroy all of our crops. They've always been alarmist and they've always been wrong. Every single time. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be more responsible with our environment, but it does mean that the boy who cried wolf can fuck off already.

Climate is changing, not sure who is changing it, is it the human beings? or mother earth? either way, world leaders bickering about shit like nuclear weapons, he said she said, when a cat 5 hurricane comes, or a typhoon comes, it kind of changes the perception of what really runs this planet.
