Golden Gate Bridge - Suicides

If I ever commit suicide, which I might if old age becomes too painful and humiliating, I've already thought about the best way to do it.

The goal is instant annihilation of all brain function so there's no pain, second thoughts, or watching yourself fall off a fucking bridge like a god damn idiot. I also don't need to sit there watching some fucking needle slowly injecting shit into my arm.

Method 1) Put your head in a metal box with a bomb in it. The trigger button is on the outside.

Method 2) Put your head in a metal box with 4+ double barrel 12 gauge shotguns attached to it. Some sort of simultaneous trigger mechanism hooked up to all of the guns.

Ideally both methods would also somehow throw your blown up brain matter in fire to completely annihilate it.

Another great method.. probably less doable.. is to go out T2 style.. and dive head first into some kind of molten metal. Although it might not be as fast as the other methods.

Anyway here's another happy vid for you:

Was hoping for a moment that the dude in black was Russell Brand.

Kind of looked like Aldous Snow didn't it? Or Chris Cornell from early SoundGarden days. That guy just took the backward leap of faith, into a head first dive, and ended in a plank position. That had to do the job.

ah fuck that. if I ever contemplated suicide, it certainly wouldn't be with something that gives me a 2% chance of surviving. end up all fucked up beyond belief, immense amount of pain, etc.

98% is actually extremely effective in terms of suicide. Most fall vastly under that.

This. A bullet in the head is the best way to do it imo.

That, for example, is less than 98% effective. You can survive a gunshot to the head. You can have half your face blown off with a shotgun and survive.

Most suicide attempts fail because the person wasn't committed enough. There's lots of easy ways to kill yourself, for example tying lots of heavy shit to yourself, exhaling and going into a deep section of water.

You can often tell whether someone seriously wanted to end their life by the method they chose.

Some of the worst ways to do it are things like jumping in front of trains, etc.. You can end up paralysed from the neck down and surviving, etc.

Jumping from a tall object onto concrete has to be the most effective way to get the job done. I'm talking a 100+ feet, not your local freeway overpass. Then you just break your legs / back and get hit by passing traffic. Good way to ruin your day..and live.

Speaking of overpasses, nearly every freeway overpass here in southern California has high fences so people can't jump off, yet the Golden Gate Bridge has nothing to prevent people from just hopping onto that ledge and bailing off. I think California is more concerned with preventing the traffic backups that happen when people decide to swan dive onto the freeway.

Depends what you care about. For example if you fell on someone's car, or landed on someone, or near someone and they felt responsible or whatever else. You can ruin someone's life.

People jumping in front of trains can result in years of psychological problems for the train driver: was I responsible, was there anything I could do, etc..

Anything that public is a very selfish way to go. If you want to kill yourself you should do it in a way which minimises the impact on other people's lives. If you're going to commit suicide, at least have the balls to commit to it properly and do it in a way that won't make a huge mess in a public place to clean up, or damage someone for life. Likewise if you have family, at least write comprehensive notes, and leave your personal affairs in order. One of the biggest problems after a suicide are all the questions loved ones have: "Was I responsible?", "Why did he do it?", "Could I have stopped him?".

They are building a net under the bridge now to prevent suicides. It's going to cost $40-50m. Waste of money IMO. If people want to commit suicide, they will find a way.

Jumpers gonna jump. Now if they put the net down about half way to the water, you'd have people lining up just to jump into the net for the fun of it. Hell, I'd try it.

I Live Blocks from this bridge. Ive actually seen a guy jump before, but didnt see him hit the water.

White folks be crazy.

Like good old fashioned unprotected ass fucking? AID's related death numbers in SF dwarf the bridge suicides by a large margin.

Wow, that was sad. I once saw an interview with a survivor of a GGB plunge. He said something to the effect of "as soon as I'd jumped, I realized I didn't have any real problems, except I'd just jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge." I wonder how many non-survivors have that same revelation.

As far as eating one's gun goes, do it right. And it's going to be messy, so have a little consideration. My sister, who's a doctor in a mid-sized town, once suggested parking in a hospital parking lot, jamming your horn so you get attention, and then doing it. The idea being the hardened ER nurses and orderlies are better equipped to deal. I'm not sure how we got on that dark subject, other than we're both a little strange.

It's always tragic, but if people want to check out, that's their right as far as I'm concerned. Still the ultimate selfish act if there's anybody in the world that cares about you.

All kind's of people commit suicide everyday all over the world, lot worse than this, but jumping off golden gate bridge I guess is unreal.

I'll tell you how not to do it, pills. Too easy to not take enough, or too easy to pussy out. Not personal experience per se, but a friend back in high school tried the pill thing.
Most people take valium, not realising that one of the main reasons it's chosen to prescribe so easily is because it's very hard to OD on. Can't go wrong with barbiturates or Carbon Monoxide.

i think this sigur ros music goes better with it
