Good strategy games?

XCom: Enemy Unknown is good

Civ5 - is also good if you realize the difference between it and Civ4. The main difference that people didn't like at first was that you couldnt stack massive amounts of armies on one square. I hated this at first too. Civ5 lets you only have one unit per square which feels limiting at first but then you realize the game has become much more dependent on positioning of your units on the battlefield - which is more difficult but cool. Who cares if your horse units have an advantage over your archers if your archers are buried in a stack of 50 other units? Nobody. The game also is much more dependent on topography. It can be frustrating if you don't understand that. The game is not dumbed down.

You should try Civ5 before you throw it in the garbage. Lots more has been added to it with the expansion packs.

Yah, if you're still playing Civ 4 after Civ 5's Brave New World expansion (paired with all others), you're severely missing out on the best addition to the series.

Civ 5 by itself had some issues. But they've been fixed and the game is no longer rivaled by its predecessors. Go forth, and experience awesomeness!
