Google, Amazon, Facebook and Twitter Shut DOWN to Boycott SOPA?

Love th deadmau5 :). This SOPA stuff really seems to be aggravating a lot of people

Cenk (And his hot new reporter) dropped a huge bomb on this subject today:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNQh56czKgc]Tech Blackout to Protest SOPA - YouTube[/ame]

Fucking hell. This gives me so many ideas I'm starting to drool.

Not to mention it makes me love Cenk more, despite his progressiveness.

tl;dr: Congress doesn't have enough money from Google, Amazon, facebook, and the rest of the Anti-sopa crowd. Now congress has realized that SOPA can't pass, but is going to use Sopa to extort more monies anyway.

Google and friends are now in a very good position to expose our lawmakers to the world as the ruthless extorting thugs that they are! Is it too late to change my christmas wish???

A boycott is nice, but will not have a long-term effect on preventing the passage of SOPA. This is a key piece of legislation for the state. It will not be abandoned. Similar to multiple attempts to erect a central bank until success was achieved, SOPA will return over and over - possibly, under different names - until it passes.

The populace lacks the attention span to withstand the assault. Big companies like Google cannot be expected to allocate resources to fighting this over and over. And may be unwilling to do so if the state throws them a big enough piece of meat (i.e. regulations against would-be competitors, etc.).

Another thought: SOPA gets a lot more attention than PIPA. The latter is also worth looking into.

Lastly, regarding the boycott, from here:

When contacted by CNN, none of those companies would confirm that such a drastic move had ever been considered. By Friday, the advocate whose comments had fueled the speculation appeared to back away from claims that a Web blackout was still likely to occur.

So here's what I'm thinking Google, Facebook, and other top sites should do:

1. Put together a nice, 2-minute video exposing how the US congress extorts businesses and are doing so in this case.

2. Replace their front pages with a blank film and that video for 3 or 5 hours the day before the vote... They wouldn't need to lose 24 hours worth of revenue, just enough for people to spread the word and see it for themselves.

3. At the bottom of the page a small link says: "Outraged by this problem? Click here."

4. The link goes to a petition for a new amendment to the constitution like the one that Wolf-pac is always harping about, to keep money out of congress.

Just imagine if most everyone who was annoyed by the loss of Google, Facebook, and Amazon for the day all signed such an amendment at the same time!

How about content lock their page for the main business hours of the day. To unlock you must call your congressman and senators. If nothing else it would keep the assholes running around for a day, but it would keep google and such from losing as much money. win.

Why not just put BLAM on it

If SOPA passes, we are building a new internet. And the people who supported SOPA aren't invited.

It's true, this is so key for tptb. They'll be back again and again.

I don't know about the hoi poloi though. teh intertubez r srs bsns. Free porn, free music, free recipes, free porn, free encyclopedias, free medical advice, free software, free porn. This is important stuff.

Not to mention the internet is itself politically hyperactive compared to the offline world - whatever that is.

And if companies' bottom lines are at stake to the tune of billions, I think they will continue to fight it.

It may be one of the only things people will continue to raise a stink about indefinitely and do something about. Until the fuckers just pass the thing anyway like they always do.

Did you even watch the film above by Cenk? Clearly there is too much resistance now to any bill that smells like SOPA... These bills will never again threaten you and me, and always now extort Google, FB, & Amazon until they cave in.

This is srsly awesome news! Why am I the only one around here that can see that?

Something like SOPA will eventually pass without doubt unless you see a massive political shift (which isn't going to happen). They will find a way to link SOPA/SOPA related bill to something the average person doesn't think rationally about (child porn, terrorism, rape) and GG.

Speaking in December, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid highlighted the importance of passing the legislation. “This is a bipartisan piece of legislation which is extremely important,” Reid said Saturday. “I repeat, it is bipartisan. I hope we can have a productive couple of days, pass this bill, and move on to other matters.”

He probably said something similar over the NDAA. Yeah SOPA will keep coming back..

So you guys are saying that the content makers like the RIAA and the US Congressmen are together going to try to come up with a privacy-eating bill in the future that does NOT cost Google, Facebook, Amazon, and the others millions in lost revenue.

Please enlighten me. What could this bill possibly say?

Reading your posts... it's like you almost "get it" but not quite. This whole thing is about capturing and oppressing society, and not just in some arbitrary manner. It's very sophisticated and orchestrated

SOPA will pass eventually, and sooner rather than later. There's a much bigger agenda at play here, call it a conspiracy theory or whatever the fuck you want... but it will be pushed forward regardless of the damage to the private sector, just like it has for decades. In fact, sometimes, damage to the private sector is the GOAL. Even if that private sector is Google and Facebook. If anything, G and FB will have to pay big for waivers. Tptb don't exactly like competition, and they especially don't like freedom of information. FB will be forced to politically tone down it's users, I can assure you of that much.

We're at a turning point many nations before us have come to, and the take over by the state will NOT stop. Political dissidents must be shut down. This is the #1 priority of all things leading forward. To silence people that are sick of being fleeced. As this agenda becomes more and more out in the open, the power of collective information has to be throttled. Tyranny has never had to contend with the internet before, and hopefully, they underestimate it's power. Either way, interesting times we live in.
