Google Docs Alternative?

Google Docs won't let me edit any of my uploaded files, just plain ol' .doc files. Any idea how to fix this? Seems to be a semi common problem, doesn't seem to be browser related. Any good alternatives to Google Docs?

There is an option called "edit" and you click on it.

^ There's nothing there, just find/comment/etc. Basically 4 things under Edit. Weird as fuck.

You don't have Google Drive installed locally? Edit them and then let it sync.

Used to use the G-drive office connector - was excellent, just open up any MS Office document in office and it would be effectively editing both local & online copy at the same time. They no longer do the connector.

Going to give Skydrive a go instead.
