Google Local Results Update?

Anyone else getting completely filtered local results dominating their search queries?

Example: Searching something like "bartender school" and front page is just dominated with local sites in the organic search. They're not only in their little local box like before, but they're topping the organic listings as well.

Type the same query through keyword software/proxy and the results are completely different.

Block of 8 Local results w/ map

2 of the remaining 6 (yes only 8 organic listings) are also local. So, trying to outrank the local results aside, the remaining sites are competing for 4 spots on that SERP.

All of my educational/career niche researches are dominated by local results as well. Google just blew up a weeks worth of research. Anyone with non-local businesses just got bombed.

Anyways loving where this is going, if whatever Google was doing today is rfelective of Penguin 2.0 then it's good news for my sites.

The thing that's pissing me off the most, is not that i lost 3 days worth of kw research. It's that anyone who has a keyword who is, even in the slightest context, viewed as local, now has to generate a site for each state to obtain their true ranking.

Whole thing is just giving local businesses a shit-ton of traffic for no reason. They're gonna fire all their SEO firms, Google will change shit in a week, and everything is just gonna be a mess.

The local listings are messed up .. I see 7 listings.. first 3 are banks that do not offer payday loans.

It will be a rough ride for a few weeks ahead. Wait until the results are stable - then you will see people reverse engineer to find the spam methods that are working.

Yea lots of updates going on. Probably going to see a lot of weird and different stuff over the next weeks-months.

Got rid of "Places" search. New google maps rolling out: Google Lat Long: Meet the new Google Maps: A map for every person and place
And looks like it's pretty much going back to the 5 star rating system.
