Google Realtime Analytics is Shit

Maybe thats actually what is happening.

I find it to be very accurate to be honest.

Haha, I'm aware of the math. But if there are 5-10 people on the site at all times, there is turnover. Let's say they spend an average of 10 minutes on the site, which is way longer than they actually spend. That would be more like 30-60 people an hour: 720-1440

This thread is dumb.

Just use another analytics program if you don't believe it.

If you have cpanel, just look at some of the stat programs that are in cpanel and compare the numbers.

R3ply, what's dumb about me saying that GA's realtime analytics seem problematic. I didn't say I don't use another analytics program. What I said was, I don't like GA's realtime analytics. It titillates me all day, makes me think that I'm going to have like thousands of dollars to stuff in my pockets. Then, I make like $200.

Also... you're dumb.

Thank you for your great contribution to this forum. Make sure you pat yourself on the back.

Also... I'm filing this thread under the category "nobody gives a fuck"

all realtime analytics are a waste of time, it's all vanity metrics anyways. Who cares how many people are on your site at once? The only thing that matters is how many are converting and what about those converting customers can you pursue and push more in that direction in the future.

Live chat is a good solution, talk to everyone.

I like it. Sometimes before a scheduled traffic event I'll blow up the real time overview on the bigscreen and sit back with a beer.

It makes me feel important.

Yeah. For me it's def a vanity metric. I sit there and I cheer my customers through every stage of the conversion like I'm watching football.

I agree with this for most situations. However, whenever you're launching something new, real-time is needed to make certain it's going to plan. Especially when you're watching a new funnel.

Only in very select situations is live chat a desired solution. For instance, you notice that someone's abandoned their cart and is sitting on your site for a few minutes, and is not currently active browsing something else.

In this instance, you might have your script pop up a chat and ask if they have found everything they needed.

However, this is hardly the norm and live chat popup requests plague many websites and only annoy customers further so that they don't often take it when there is a legitimate reason to offer one.

I <3 real time to UNDERSTAND my users (i prefer chat because it is more 'by users' type of thing). I can't tell you how much I've learned from it. I do agree it is easy to over-do it and get into ego-stroking.

Popping up chat for most users is a bad idea. Most people feel (incorrectly I might add) that their browsing experience is private. When you send chat request, even if they needed help, it freaks them out that you were 'spying on them'... (I don't deal with tech savvy people)
