The best multi effects processor for $300 ? This is going to be my first pedal/processor purchase , would like expert opinions !

What's your goal? Hobby, production, playing live?

Multi effects are not going to measure up to singular pedals in most cases, it's a jack of all trades but master of none. For great tone get straight analog pedals per effect, and put that in the parallel loop of the amp.

does playing air guitar in the shower with a 13 inch self attached instrument qualify me as a guitarists?....or am I just a penist?

Multi-effects processors are crap.

There are so many ways to grow as a guitarist, don't get sucked in to worrying about gear. You can waste hours fooling around with a complicated effects pedal. That time would be better spent on focused practice or live performance. You'll know what pedals to get when you have an actual need.

What kind of music are you playing? If you have a stylistic focus, it makes achieving a useful tone much easier.

I admit I'm biased on this topic - my interest in guitar is mainly for jazz and country. Both genres make use of effects, but it's pretty limited compared to some genres of rock.

Good luck with the guitar playing!

yeah, they're crap. but only if you're trying to be a pro or smth

if it's just a hobby, you can pick up one. it's a lot easier and cheaper than buying pedals to make your pedalboard

Fuck That. Multi effects blow. They're good for kids in middle school and dive bar bands. You can forget about getting any real tone with a multi effects floorboard.

If you're on a budget, why not just go for Boss pedals? They sound better, last longer, and offer you more control.

unfortunately i am 16 and i am living my guitar dreams with my cash,so i am pretty much on a shoe string budget($300) ; ya i know they do not compare to analog pedals but i really cant afford so much . i play live usually(and a little bit of recording ) and got a good grasp over rock and metal styles. Or let me put it this way, whats the best way to spend the cash to get come kind of decent upgrade ?

people tell me that zoom g5s are pretty good for the tone ? i have been playing guitar for a long time ,but i am really new to the pedals/effects thing.
Thanks to all who replied in this thread :D

I have to agree with everyone in regards to the shittiness of multi-effects pedals. If you have a decent amp that's going to be the start for your overdrive/distortions, but I say pick up a few quality pedals and build from there.

If you need a distortion or overdrive, Fulltone pedals have always been really good and they're true bypass. Aside from that, grab a good delay and chorus pedal. I still have an H20 Liquid Chorus that is the shit. Then you can get some phaser/modulation type stuff if you desire. Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for, but friends don't let friends buy multi-effects processors.

A lot of the time the amp is just as important as the pedals. I used to rock the BOSS metal zone back in the day and had pretty good distortion for metal. If you're looking for more effects I would recommend checking out something like Guitar Rig and running that through a DAW. You can play live with that and if you're looking to record you're all set up with that as well.

Back in the day, I had a Digitech RP-7 multi-effects pedal board.

I remember that thing sounding pretty good because it had a tube pre-amp built in.

I'm not a fan of multi-effects processors, but this thing could get some wicked metal and rock tones.

What kind of guitar are you playing?

Maybe you can upgrade your pickups for $300? Shop around and find a nice head? Or just pick one or two effects that to learn how to incorporate into your playing, like get a decent chorus and decent distortion pedal.

With $300 I'd be scouring Craigslist/Ebay for good deals on peddles. If you're playing live and want to sound good I'd avoid multi-effects pedals. You can find cheap stuff on CL, guitar peddles are one of the first things people put up for sale when they're desperate for cash.

Line6 FTW

Ohhh, wait. 300 bux.

Sorry...

This ^

I have a m13 I use - some models on it leave something. To be desired, most are REALLY good - delays, modulations.

I bought mine new for $415. Wait it out until a $500 unit comes up on CL for $300 - it happens. Or if too impatient - the TC Electronics Nova comes up a lot for $300...

i'm a guitarist, meaning i actually play instead of make noise. i suggest you get to the 'holy shit' level before you try to amplify and add bullshit effects.
