Guy Threatens Us & I'm Annoyed At MYSELF

I'm usually able to diffuse any confrontations with my verbal skills, or just make sure I don't get myself into those situations to begin with. Obviously there are exceptions to this and sometimes you have no other choice.

Yah, you might carry a weapon and know how to handle it, but I hate gun owners who talk like you. That weapon will permanently change someone's life if you fire on them. It's a deadly defense instrument, not a fucking ego booster.

That weapon will permanently change someone's life hence why I carry it.
It's a deadly defense instrument They know that and I know that. It's a deterrent so that things don't get out of control.

An ego booster, shit it is more of a liability then anything else. However I would rather deal with liability then deal with broken bones, hospital visitors or something worse.

In the case you're dealing with some uppity kid from a better background (and therefore less threathening), maybe consider giving a hard open hand slap, a sort of bitchslap if you will. I've found this to be quite powerful in a 'put up or shut up' kinda way, when I've seen it dished out. Of course that means being ready to follow up if the perp doesn't stop pestering you (most likely will).

I can vouch for this and it actually works. Slapping not only feels way better when you do it but it totally humiliates whoever is on the end of it.

I think psychologically they feel you they wern't worth a clenched first in some way and tend to back off after being slapped.

But then this asshole gets to walk away feeling like he's done the right thing, threatened us and gotten away with it. Meaning he'll continue like this, the next time he's in a similar situation.

Not really your problem.

mixed mar·tial arts
noun
1.
an extreme combat sport in which contestants are permitted to use the fighting techniques of wrestling and boxing but also those of martial arts such as kickboxing, judo, and karate.

Firearms. Look it up, yourself.

You never know who you're messing with. I know a few mma instructors, and none of them look like it. De-escalate or exit whenever possible, and don't feel bad about it. It's a survival skill. Protect the people with you if you need to, but leading them to safety is way better than alternatives.

And in a lot of places, a gun doesn't mean you win. (some people actually think that.) If you present it, it means you've opened up the possibility for a deadly gunfight.

It's best to move along, knowing you can handle shit if it follows you on your way out, and hoping you don't have to.

I'm reminded of this scene from Tombstone..

What this guy said.
Also worse then some trained mma fighter who will probably just beat you down is running into a small mean person. Who will be more violent then you ever thought before you even knew you were really in a fight.

Pretty awesome movie for various reasons, but I'm gonna disagree with this "slap people" idea.

If you go to "slap" someone who is capable of defending themselves, they aren't going to process it as "he's only slapping me," and you'll get the full force of their defense in return.

That just sounds like a horrible idea.

You = you-anyone... If someone is really so weak that you think you can slap them without repercussions, then you're a real dick for doing so, and most likely underestimating the entire situation and aftermath.

I understand the concept of "slapping" as a giant power play, but it has every opportunity to go wrong, and very little upside.

I agree with you (see my posts here and here). In fact, every time I see Billy Bob come up with the shotgun, I think to myself, "Kurt wasn't thinking it through."

But I'll have to disagree with you on one minor detail: I think Tombstone is a pretty bad movie. It just has several really good parts (most of them involve Michael Biehn or Kilmer). ;)

Yeah, I like the quotes. I grew to like Billy-Bob eventually (I resisted it for a long time), but that might be Val Kilmer's best movie. Not bad for Sam Elliot, either.

But yeah, we agree, slapping is just plain full of bad idea. I'd hate to see someone read this thread and go trying to slap someone. Internet marketers tend to think they can do crazy shit, but that's not a technique to add to the arsenal.

"I got 8 websites, make 2k a month, and now it's time to start slapping motherfuckers!!!!"

All this bullshit about fighting is fucking shit. If you are fighting you have failed in truly defending yourself. Self defense is seeing a problem and avoiding it if at all possible. That also means not being around people who abuse drugs or alcohol. Big mean people, fucking mma trainers,...wtf are you guys talking about.

Almost always follows this pathway, interview, woof, adrenaline freezes the unprepared, sucker punch, game over. Even robberies of 711s follow the interview then the robbery. You need to be earlier, stop the trouble at the interview step. Leave a big ass dog bowl on your porch, stops at the interview step so your house isnt broken into.

College girls on campus, if they can see the creep before he approaches them he will pick another person more then likely.

My memory is fuzzy as I get older, but slapping across the face was a challange. It is this where "turn the other cheek" came from.

The ass hole liberals perverted it into something that is pathetic, like let someone shove their cock in your face and just turn the other cheek, when it essentially had a history of when you turn your cheek you signify the seriouness of the challanger.

Or something lke that, im sure we have a biblical scholar around here too.

Some many tough guys in this thread. Hilarious.

BRO THIS IS WHAT I DO WHEN I GET IN FIGHTS....

HAHAHA so true, I was quite a fucking idiot a handful of times growing up my nose looks like a combo of these two.
broken%2Bnose

Ernst-Joubert-broken-nose.jpg

Full of cartilage on the inside obstructing breathing and can make me snore like hell when sleeping on back. Getting surgery next year cutting inside with laser and make it straight like my dick again.

Was it worth it now 10 years after, most probably not.

I'll also echo what most others are saying here - fighting as an adult really isn't worth it unless 100% necessary.

But, some good info on street fighting can be found in Bas Ruttens Lethal Street Fighting DVD. A short clip was posted earlier in this thread, but the whole DVD is good. Bas is a funny guy.

I'm not sure what WF's policy is for posting torrent links here, but...

Having had my ass kicked at least a few times and paid for hospital bills for the other guy more than once, I'd rather just fuck. Often.

a/s/c?

Sounds like you don't like fighting. No real shame in that. Try not to beat yourself up about it.

I dont like fighting but I would jello wrestle the shit out of Matt Cutts !

Holy shit! I deleted the pics in the quote just so I didn't have to post them again. Not getting popped is one hell of a skill, however people do it.

It reminds me of NFL players. Everyone likes a tough NFL player who goes up to get a ball and puts their body on the line, but I've noticed many of the best NFL players are really good at ducking, going out of bounds, or knowing how to keep themselves uninjured so they can play the next down. Out of all of the people that play football, there must be tons of them with super talent that never reach the NFL simply because they couldn't avoid getting their head knocked off at some point.

Same with boxers. They dodge a lot of punches.
