Anyone watch this last night on AMC? Looks very promising. I'd give the first episode an 8 out of 10.

For those of you who haven't heard of the series, it's about a guy in 1983 who puts together a team to reverse engineer an IBM computer and create a clone to sell to the public.

Yeah...just wondering if they are going to portray the business/ethical issues in a good way. Who's sponsoring the series, in other words?

I heard that the show was loosely based on Compaq which makes sense when you consider they are known to be the first company to legally do this.

Compaq Computer Corporation was a company founded in 1982, that developed, sold, and supported computers and related products and services. Compaq produced some of the first IBM PC compatible computers, being the first company to legally reverse-engineer the IBM Personal Computer.[1][2] It rose to become the largest supplier of PC systems during the 1990s before being overtaken by Dell in 2001

Loved the first episode. They nailed it, I thought.

I believe the showrunners are former Breaking Bad writers, so that can only be a good thing

Wondering if they will get enough mileage out of the subject matter to make it interesting past a season or two though

definitely a good start

Great 2nd episode. I like the nod to Compaq when he was meeting with the lawyer from IBM since they're fictionally doing what Compaq did in real life.

The girl who plays the programmer reminds me a lot of that chick from that 80s movie, "Some Kind Of Wonderful."

I thought the 2nd episode was pretty lame from a writing standpoint. Naturally im interested in the tech and business elements of the show, but the main mysterious dude's backstory seems a lot less interesting after the 2nd episode.

I like this... I like this a lot.

Something tells me her character was not based on a real person.

Yeah, I thought the show is super promising and really liked the first two episodes, but that girl......hmmmmm......I very doubt there is anyone out there that has ever looked liked that and at the same time been like that. Coder girls -> not great looking, Super Amazing Coder Girls -> Ouch

Wow...really disappointed that they made Joe a bi-sexual. What the fuck. What was the point of that and how is that realistic given that this is the early 80s?

Apparently, these stations have to have the token gay character now so they can attract that crowd. Do gay people not watch TV when there's no gay characters on the show???

I agree with you on that. I was disappointed that they had to fit in the gay part somewhere. That completely changes him from a shark to a dandelion.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I'm not sure if that scene was to cast him as a bi-sexual, or to prove he is an insane business man that will do anything to get his way. By showing that bitch's manservant was gay he was able to potentially blackmail her.

I haven't watched the latest episode, but the show is good albeit a little rough around the edges.

Him trying to fuck the punk chick in the first episode right away was strange. They should have built up that sexual tension throughout the entire first season.

I think geeks like us will enjoy it, but it will ultimately get cancelled after the first season.

If you are the type of viewer looking for an "alpha" businessman type character you are better off watching House of Cards.

It's not bı̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̨ad, bit melodramatic

After re-watching the scene, I think you're right. But then how would she know what happened and yet Joe's boss didn't get it? It seemed like the writers took the easy way out there.

I know Joe is desperate to make this computer and do it his way, but it's asking a lot from me to believe he'd take that kind of action without some backstory to show he was at least bisexual before, something that was very rare in the early 80s.
