Ive decided that tomorrow I'm incorporating my first private limited company...
The problem is, I need to come with a name for it. Ive been sitting at my computer for hours now looking at ancient god's names, baby names, random word generators, and I just can't find anything suitable.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how to come up with a good name? If you have a company, how did you come up with the name?

Also, while I'm here, where does one get those signature images that cycle all the things you are?

Cheers,
Pete

Well if I take the first letters of each word of that sentence i get "Sabast Ltd"

Not bad actually :rasta:

See that's how desperate I am...

Smeeb.com sounds like a good company name. Although it's taken. If I were you, I'd contact the owner, and offer $1000~ or so for it.

If you have any problems contacting him, then you could always pm me :)

Edit : Just to make me not look like an ass, this is my domain ;)

use your name, family name, or just a cool name... as long as you like the name thats all that matters... unless you are going to use the name to catapult things on the net thru it.

i just used my middle name...it doesn't really matter anyway unless you are planning on marketing the shit out of it and making it part of your brand.

i think www.inc.com had a good article on why it doesn't matter what you name your company...

Good names come from good concepts. Think of a few ideals you have or things that will make your company stand out. 3M is based on innovation - the daughter company is called imation. This possibly means that they found that good business ideas have the right mix of innovation and imitation.

Nike is the greek goddess of victory. Because she is a lesser known god in the pantheon today, the company Nike more or less got good meaning from it but also a clear slate free from too many past associations.

Company names often take two words or concepts and turn them into one word. You then have (must be positive) assocations but a new word that can acquire another layer of meaning once your brand grows.

If this is a holding company for your websites, etc. name doesn't matter at all. If you think this is tough you've got a long road ahead!

invent a word or use something odd that isn't so generic.

i.e.
google, yahoo, youtube...

it's a dot com company right?
you'll have a lot of trouble securing a real word as a domain.

make up something.

hyperfrazzle, webgasm, narcosomniac - don't know enough to offer much

Well ive managed to come up with something, and now I have a limited company... woohoo :D

So...where do I get those sig images from?

I've been wanting GeorgeInc.com for a year now. The friggin owner wants like $2000 for it starting bid.... I'm actually seriously considering it :(

You don't need a good name for your company. You can name your individual businesses something more appropriate, but what the overall parent is, is really irrelevant. It is not going to make you any money or get you chicks, so just pick something and move on.

What sig images?

Do you mean the signature bars? I think most people made them. I made mine. Just break out Photoshop, Fireworks, whatever and get creative. :rasta:

Ive found userbars.com now...pretty cool, makes them for you for up to 10 userbars.

True, GeorgeMedia Web Holdings is the parent company but I have sub organizations for different site networks like Jibber.net etc.
