Some follow on advice for peoples
I haven't tripped in at least 3 years, but these are the go to tracks, likely in this order even.
Trips tend to follow an almost classic story arc.
1) There's before you take the drug,
2) Waiting for it to take effect,
3) When it comes on strong,
4) The coming down,
5) And then after the effects have worn off.
So, you need different music (or no music) for different times.
There's also two major concepts introduced by Leary: Set & Setting. They're basically common sense.
You are the Set and what you eat, wear, how you feel that day will affect your trip.
Where you are is the Setting. Who you are with, your familiarity with the space, the size of the space, time of day, the temperature of the space, all that will affect your trip.
If you don't like the people you are with the discomfort you will feel is probably some sort of heightened social anxiety rather than the drug itself.
The best way to approach a trip, for your first time, is to imagine yourself as Columbus (or the explorer of your choice) and have that kind of adventure-into-the-unknown mindset. But realize also that you have an advantage in that you know for sure you will return safely.
You can also prepare yourself for a better trip by taking control of how your Set and Setting are. That's like setting your course before the trip. And then during the trip you do have a number of ways to take control. You can move, you can not move, you can sing, you can listen to music, you can shut off music, you can go outside, stay inside, there's just a lot of little things you can choose to do that will change the whole situation.
Also, people caught up in the ego-death wankfest :love-smiley-086: are the most annoying people on the planet. It's over-rated and the first thing you do after experiencing it is rebuild your ego. Alan Watts has a line on it that's basically, "Once you experience the void, you need to void the void." But how douchey does talking about Alan Watts sound. Just don't do it. Just take the trip and ride the wave. Try to have an otherwise impossible experience with some good friends. Burn some money. Break something. Build something. Whatever, do you. :nopenope:
