Hi WickedFire -

As you may remember back in this thread:

http://www.wickedfire.com/shooting-shit/94393-quit-yer-bitchin.html

I had a friend - Chris - who was killed in June. It's a true tragedy - he had no chance to survive due to another motorist losing control of his vehicle and swinging his boat trailer perpendicular across the highway.

My friend was wearing a helmet and full safety gear - his motorcycle hit right in front of the left boat trailer wheel. He hit the boat, was ejected from his bike, his helmet came off, and he landed in the road and was killed instantly.

He had a wife and two sons. One is 7 and autistic. The other is 3. Given the family situation even 7 figures of money may be enough to raise the kids to adulthood and get them through college.

Anyway - there's a benefit being held in August for his family. I really, REALLY want to get the story out and hopefully make this go viral and be picked up by a news station or five.

Please go here - and hit the Facebook "LIKE" button.

The Chris Brock Benefit

Donations are also accepted.

Also, if anyone is really good at writing real (non-marketing) press releases and wants to help out I'd appreciate it. A LOT.

That's really sad but I feel I have to rant in the hopes that maybe someone will smarten up. Why does someone with 2 kids and at his age feel the need to ride a motorcycle? Don't think I"m being insensitive because my cousin was killed 2 years ago on a bike too. Was going over a hill and someone pulled out in front of him, he smacked into the passenger side dieing on impact. 23 years old and left his girl with a 1 year old kid so this stuff really does upset me. The passenger of the car was killed too - husband of a pregnant wife.

Bikes are dangerous, period. If you've got a family and young children you should not be riding one, simple as that. Please don't tell me about oh you can ride it safely or same thing can happen in a car. Statistics don't lie.

"Even though Chris had taken every safety precaution possible, nothing could have been done on his part to avoid this tragic accident."

THIS is exactly why bikes are dangerous. No matter what precautions you take all it takes is one idiot to cut you off or do something stupid and your life is over. Why risk it?? I can't imagine any sensible mother approving of her husband riding around on a bike especially with one of the kids having special needs.

It just really upsets me that those who are no longer with us made those decisions and I hope that maybe someone reading this changes their mind about getting a bike or thinks about getting rid of theirs.

When the first time you meet your dead cousin's girlfriend is at the cemetery crying and weeping while she's holding her 1 year old kid it really gets to you. And it's really upsetting that some of my friends have recently gotten bikes or are in the process of doing so, fucking dumb. If you're an adrenaline junkie go sky dive or something else that's a little bit safer. Yes skydiving is waaaaay safer than riding a bike, go dig it up if you like. Funny thing is one of my friends won't jump out of a plane but is getting a speed bike next year.

Having said that I'm going to "like" your story but you just might want to consider changing that button to "share" or something else...nothing to like about the story. ( I know it'll still show up on fb as a like but still ).

I do not disagree with a single thing you said - I'd actually like to get a motorcycle - but I have a 3 year old daughter and I'm married. For my life I choose the same way you would. Parts of me are very angry that this happened at all - and my mind has been up and down all of those same thoughts more times than I can imagine.

Beyond that - the "Like" button however is more in the sense of "liking" the benefit.

That is in deed a very sad tragic story. However; not to detract from it in any way, my life is a sad story about a man who toiled for decades only to end up with basically nothing to his name.

Just one more pathetic specimen of poor white trash, living a hand to mouth existence, after being forced into exile from his beloved country.

I need some money and I need it bad. I'm not kidding. You can contact me if you want to send a donation but honestly I'm not gonna hold my breath.

You have no idea what it's like to be me. It sucks!

Liked & donated.

I used to ride. I also wrecked and waked away from it. That was the last day of riding for me. Not worth it anymore.

Do you view parents who smoke the same way? (I'm genuinely curious) Because I'd imagine the chances that you die an extremely early/untimely death from driving a motorcycle is similar to the odds you'll die extremely early from smoking.

Sorry, but I'll give my money to a family that doesn't have $1mil+ thanks anyway. I see people lower than dirt every day. I'm certainly not going to donate money to someone that has anywhere NEAR that amount of money. I know it's not enough in this country to do everything we want to do, but that family is a hell of a lot better off than most, even in this country.

Yeah sure, he died on a bike. Let's just say it's a hell of a lot better than dying of starvation, which millions have to die from every day....and hundreds of millions of family members have to deal with the loss of those loved ones. I'm not saying their situation doesn't suck. I'm just saying that there are a TON of people who are worse off that could use that money a lot more than your friend's family could.

  • Motorcyclist fatalities reached 5,290 in 2008, accounting for 14% of total crash fatalities.
  • This is the 11th consecutive year that there has been an increase in motorcycle crash deaths.
  • Per registered vehicle, the fatality rate for bikers in 2006 was 5.5 times the fatality rate for passenger car occupants.
Motorcycle Statistics for Accidents and Crashes

FUCK!

I also do not believe the comparison with smoking is a correct one. I view smoking parents as bad (my parents smoke), but you'll die of it when you are older, your kids will probably be adults by then. With a motorcycle accident - not necessarily.
