Hot linking SEO benefits?!

[bizousoft]

Founds this little Gem on my forum

This is clearly a Xrumer post (nick returns around 5k results in google), but there are no backlinks (they're not blocked by default on the forum either)

The image is hosted on a popular Russian iPhone site

Are there any benefits? Never heard of images passing link juice

P.S: Interesting fact btw, the word "Xrumer" comes from the Russian Хрюмер, X is read as "H" in Russian so the proper english pronunciation would be HREWMER (the sound that bigs make HREW-> Russian: Хрю!)

^ doesn't that just blow your mind maan.... :rasta:

[Spelunking]

I am only hypothesizing, but I think it would make sense for Google to follow hotlinked images and give them some weight. Is there not value to a site that has images hotlinked all over the place (presumably by various visitors that want to share the image)? It would stand to reason that Google would try to weigh this value in.

/complete conjecture, as mentioned

I actually wrote an article about this topic about a month ago. I've got a lot of backlinks from using images that are memes. Problem is of course, you have no anchor text.

I've also recently been "stealing" other peoples content. I then go to their forums and say "hey guys, this website about [anchor text] is stealing your content, just a heads up". A lot of the time, other people will do this white knight bullshit for you anyway. Not recommending it's OK to steal other peoples work, I just wanted to see how it might serve me to get backlinks.

Nope, I don't believe there has been one since April of this year.

I actually think it's traffic what they are after; if the link is clickable.
