How do you guys work through depression?

I can't believe all the faggots Dr. Philling and Dear Abbying this 9 post wonder on his little problems. WTF has happened to this forum, bros.

@OP: Pull on your big-boy pants and fucking deal, or suck a pistol and rid the world of your whining little bitch voice.

Wow, not a single narcotic required.

Create a word document with a 3x34 table to fit on one page. Print it out, then keep it in your pocket at all times. This is your list of at least one hundred things you must do before you die. Constantly be thinking about this and filling it out as you go about your day.

Trust me you need a hundred because if you only have a few you will procrastinate. Get 100 in there and come back to the thread when its filled out.

Where to visit? Who to meet? Who to date? Skydiving? Run a triathlon? Run with the bulls? Give a comedy routine?

Anything, skies the limit.

Trust me there is gold in this.

I've found that MDMA helps shitloads. Just get the 5 HTP to ease the comedown and youll have the best day of your life.

That + exercise + diet.

I have been through depression, cause's are actually pretty stupid after you fully understand the existence of why you are on the planet.

Couple of things I do and have done to overcome it.

1. Date shitloads of girls.
2. GYM
3. Not really giving a shit about what/who/where/ people think of you.
4. Go to the clubs and act stupid, girls will come to you.
5. If you are gay, pimp your game to DWIGHT, if you lucky, he will release your stress.

So I take it, for you, happiness was all about self-esteem and girls? You know they have cooties, right?

This is a bad place to ask this question because like half the people here don't even consider depression to be a real thing. Your best bet is to find yourself a cool therapist that you feel comfortable working with. Don't talk to your general practioner about this stuff, the most they'll do is give you some prozac and tell you to call them in two months to see how you feel.

Seriously, find a good Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. They're amazing.

It explains CBT well and gives you a lot of really simple exercises to try and help in the short term. They'll seem corny and stupid, but give them a try anyways.

Dchuk WF resident depression therapist.

Says WF isn't a good place to take depression advice...

Gives depression advice anyways...

LOL

(Sorry for lack of meme)

P.S I like the Cognitive Depression Therapy advice.

It's a serious topic for me so I like to try and help when I can. But just look at this thread, most people are recommending specific drugs (not even necessarily anti-depressants)...that's bad new bears right there.

While I never had prolonged sever depression I have had periods of pretty bad depression, there is never one thing that I'm depressed about, it's just the feeling, I try to give my self a pep talk, I watch a movie or find something else to get distracted by. I also throw my self into work.

I hope that helps. Have you seen a doctor? It could be a chemical inbalance.

Yeah, drugs will just disassociate your senses further from the core problems/behaviors that you have to learn how to change. I do like your position on therapy over drugs, some of the best advice in this thread and I fucking love drugs (only for fun, and maybe when I was a lot younger).

Why Sleep Deprivation Eases Depression: Scientific American

Not a permanent solution (winter months lower my mood) but I've noticed that after I've been awake 30+ hours, when the second wind rolls around, it makes me feel amazing for some reason.

Its temporary until you fall asleep, but it is some relief and you'll get more done than you would expect. It won't be brilliant work or anything, but in moderation its at least one thing you can try.

I support anti-depressant uses for specific cases (such as leveling out the highs and lows) but the point of drugs in most depression cases is to just lift the fog enough that you can start to face life again on your own. CBT is what you use to "cure" your depression by learning how to adapt your view of life to better suit the world around you.

(not preaching to you, just expounding a bit)

I used to be highly depressed when I was a teenager, but I realized that it was because I was gaming in my basement hours every day and rarely leaving the house. My top-3 cures for depression, in order of importance (or at least in order of what worked best for me):

#1: Physical Activity. Find a sport you like and do it 2 or 3 times a week. Ideally a collective sport, but it can also be hitting the gym. Your body has no time for depression when it's too busy rebuilding your broken muscle tissue.

#2: Diet. Start juicing, or even blending. Your 1st meal should be a nice healthy juice or smoothie. Add high quality protein if you're also exercising. Take a multi-vitamin capsule daily. (Make sure it has the B vitamin family)

#3: Social Life. Socialize with a group of people at least 2-3 times a week, whether it's having a beer with friends at a bar, or any type of social gathering. Being with family doesn't really count because it doesn't put you out of your comfort zone.

One more thing then I'll stop bumping this thread because after all we want the depression to go away, right?

I think it comes down to what you believe that you can do to create change in your life. You have to believe you can solve your problems, which means, you have to be able to tell yourself everyday that you're going to get rid of your depression. Otherwise if you keep telling yourself you're depressed and to the people you around you... You're already at a disadvantage

Get the help you need if you feel that you need it. Life's too short to be that unhappy. Depression snowballs from inertia: you get depressed, stop doing what makes you happy and/or what you know you should be doing so you get more depressed.

Do something small, whatever you're up to. Take a shower, make a to do list, tell the haterz on this thread to GTFO... whatever and after you do that first small thing you might feel up to doing the next small thing and on and on. Stop doing what you hate, cut out what drags you down, start climbing. All the best :)
